MDC SoftE Smart Collar Size 5, X Large

I bought this soft cat collar back in October 2013 for our then newly adopted stray cat just in case we needed it in the future. I bought it to add to our Cat First Aid Kit.Recently (August 2014), our cat suffered a bite to his forehead and became septic. We took him to the vet and got an emergency treatment, however the vet needed the injury to heal without the cat scratching and irritating the wound. In my opinion, plastic collars are not comfortable and may causes distress as movement is limited. A few hours after my husband and I brought our cat home from the vets, he started to scratch the clean but open wound. We decided that it was good time to use this soft collar. The neck part of the collar needed a bit of stretching before we attempted to put it on the cat. We had no problem putting the collar on the cat and it seemed to fit and hug his neck comfortably, ensuring it is not too tight. There is a string to ensure there is a snug fit in case your cat is smaller. Our male cat is 5 kg in weight and the collar seemed to be the good size for him. We kept the collar on him full three days so the wound had a chance to start healing but ensuring when he was eating we bent the collar backwards so he could eat comfortably. One thing which was important was to ensure we scratched our cat's neck and cheeks as he could not do it himself and must have felt itchy at times as he could not properly scratch himself. After we took the collar off I gave it a wash in hot water with a detergent. My husband are I are giving this product five stars as it has helped our cat to recover faster without huge amount of stress to us. We would definitely recommend this product.

I bought this collar to prevent my cat from further scratching her head which had a small scratch prior to the collar.I was horrified to find the following morning that her little scratch turned into a nasty and sore looking wound whilst the collar was folded in on itself her entire head exposed and easily accessible to her hind paws.If you're looking for a collar to stop your cat from scratching his/her head then please stay away from this thing. It is not fit for this purpose.I can only imagine it may be useful to prevent licking.Also, the material is really not at all sturdy anyway, my cat managed to tear the collar in one place. And this is a cat who does regularly have her claws trimmed.

This is a great product. Brought for my cat after he had his back leg amputated. He hated the plastic collar. As soon as this went on his mood changed. I got the size 2 for him. Fits perfectly over his head and the pully string to tighten it is great an very comfortable for him. Its not in the way when he eats and he can sleep in it. This is going to help him on his road to recovery so much!!

I have a very skinny Bengal. He weighs approx 3.8kg. I measured his neck before purchasing and he was 9 inches. This collar is supposed to be up to a 10 inch neck. It fits around his neck, but only just. It was a real struggle to get it on a compliant pet. He can also reach his wounds on his tummy. The fabric is soft and comfortable for him. He has been more active with it on and hasn't been getting stuck on everything and banging around the house. I think the bigger size will be more effective at stopping him reaching his wounds. He seemed much happier with it on, even before he realised he could reach his tummy. the 4 stars is due to the fact the size guide is inaccurate.

This is a very poor product. It does not work. Firstly it turns inside out very easily and then the cat can scratch its face and any wound it has. Secondly the sizing needs to clearly state that the cat has to get its head through the hole so that it can be fitted round the neck. The size needed is NOT the circumference of the neck, but of the head as it slips over the head. We had to unpick the stitching on the seam so we could get it onto the cat - but it did not work so that was a waste of effort. We had to buy one from a high street shop which was stiff plastic and sealed using a Velcro strap at top and bottom.

the item is great, however the sizing is confusing, the measurement chart is clear, but the order sizing does not relate, so as many have commented on, it is a guess for sizing, the size 2 did not fit my border terrier, too small, so i reordered what i thought was the next size up, but it came as a size 4 which is massively too big, so i guess a standard border would fit a size 3 but i have no idea what size that is to order, is it a extra small, small, medium or large? which is how you have to order it? the vendors should clarify this. as the item is really a great solution and probably much kinder than the cone of shame, if you can get the sizing right. they accepted both returns no problem,

Good product but has some problems. It was the best comprise we could find for allowing our cat which grases all day, to eat and drink normally. It did allow our cat to eat and drink no problem and still stop her from licking the wound at the base of her tail.(she could still clean her feet so no good for foot wounds) It was comfortable and light so she could carry on her normal day I.e sleep and hunt :) however it did fold back sometimes and then she could get at her wound. It also need some repair after a couple of weeks as the material folded back easier and easier. It also became smelly and was not washable. But overall I would recommend as we bought another so we could see the wound heal with out steroids. Just means that some patience and attention is required.

Nice & soft, my kitty was much happier in this than a plastic cone of shame - definitely be careful depending on where wound is however, as my cat could fold this over & reach down to groom her chest & belly with this on. Not so easy to put on as no zip etc - you need to pull it over their face like a a jumper - not so easy if you have a scaredy kitty like me, she was terrified of it coming directly over her face but that's my fault for perhaps not realising from the pictures you couldn't actually open in - there's very little give in the drawstring too so it doesn't pull open any bigger than the neck dimension given in the description.
