Great substitute for a room stat.....
I have three of these - two controlling underfloor heating manifold valves and one controlling my radiator circuit. The real beauty of this unit is that you can leave the heating time clock on 24hrs, and control the whole thing through this without faffing around changing time schedules. The PI and optimisation functions are worth exploring (but make sure you research them first before changing the settings). They are particularly relevant for underfloor heating where there is a high, low response thermal mass (the floor slab) to control. I can keep the temperature at a base level, then give it a couple of hours boost during the day, and it will be up to temperature when I get home when it throttles back again and the residual heat keeps the room warm.If you do use the PI function, leave it to self learn for a week or so before you change the temperatures and confuse it.....Expensive item but it will definitely save on your fuel bills. If you have partners or kids who continually turn the heating up to it's maximum you can limit the highest temperature it can go to......very useful!Easy to wire - just a live (usually from the time clock if you have one) and switched live to wire in. No need for a neutral as the clock is powered by the batteries. If you have a neutral in your old room stat it's normally for an accelerator / anticipator which mechanical stats need to improve accuracy. There may also have been one if your old stat has an indicator lamp. Anyway, you can just terminate this in the wall box (if you can track it I'd also disconnect the other end and leave safe just for consistency).Highly recommended.

Very pricey is my only complaint.
Bought as a replacement for my previous thermostat. Easy to install and operate. Prompt postage. My only complaint is the cost. Very pricey!

Great bit of kit!
Been using an earlier model for 20 years! This one bought as now have two zones. Works a treat - somewhat easier to use now but has more features than anyone could need. Really think it saves money as the heating is so accurately controlled and the real test to me is I don't notice the heating being on, off or cycling

Versatile programmable thermostat
These units are very easy to fit. The backplate can be screwed into a standard electrical partess, or directly into a wall. The switch wires for the boiler are connected via screw terminals on the backplate- but remember to switch off the power to your boiler first in case the wires are live! Once fitted, the front of the programmer hinges at the top, then clicks into place at the bottom. It's supplied with 2 AA alkaline batteries, which will last for years. The time & date are also easy to set, and there are 4 programmable time zones, which can be set in any day, at any temperature. Each day can be set with its own programme, or the programme can be copied to other days- so every day of the week can have the same programme- or you can have a different programme at weekends etc. There are also other useful features, such as automatic Summer/Winter time changing, & a maximum temperature limit setting. It can also be set to 'manual', where it acts as a simple digital thermostat without any timer features, or 'off' where the heating will only come on if the ambient temperature falls to 5°C to prevent freezing. Lastly, there is a 'holiday' button, where the unit can be turned off for a pre-set number of days. It's attractive, and there is an openable cover which normally hides most of the buttons, except the ones needed for everyday functions. The pleasant blue backlight comes on when any button is pressed. It's hard to see how this device could be improved, as it seems to cover most options which anyone could need to control their heating system, so I've given it 5 stars. My only minor gripe is that it's a little pricey, but if programmed well, it should pay for itself with reduced energy bills.Update: My thermostat has been a little temperamental recently, sometimes turning on and off even when the room temperature is at or above the set temperature. Occasionally, nothing seems to be able to turn it off- not lowering the set temp, switching to manual, or even turning the unit off. The other night, I had to turn my boiler off, because it kept coming on in the middle of the night, even though the ambient temperature was above set temperature. I've knocked a couple of stars off now. I'm wondering if I need to replace it, or get another model...

Horribly inaccurate heating control
This was installed by a professional electrician and it has never worked consistently. It is programmed to activate the heating during the day if the thermostat goes below 16.5, yet persistently I have found the heating has been on when it has been 17.5 degrees.Likewise the heating should only turn off in the morning and evening when it gets to 19 degrees, but yet again, I have persistently found that the heating will go off when the thermostat gets to 18 degrees. It is utterly useless and there is no consistency in its control of the heating or temperature.

This is the perfect programmer, easy to use
This is the perfect programmer, easy to use, neat and modern. purchased to replace two British Gas units. The back lite remains on all the time and as we are told to save electricity it seemed a little odd. The one unit replaced both and works perfect.Foot note. If you are not electrically savvy, don't play with mains electric.
