Philips GC9550/02 PerfectCare Silence Steam Generator Iron with Optimal Temperature and 360 g Silent Steam Boost, 1.5 Litre, 2400 W, 6.5 Bar, Champagne

I've bought Philips irons for years and this iron is truly their best offering. I simply can't fault it. It works on the principle of a sole plate that runs relatively cool so as to not damage even the most delicate fabric, but which pumps out high temperature steam. I get a razor sharp crease on my trousers and for me this is the defining test. The iron is delightful to use, delightful to look at and enjoys simplicity of operation. And HEY! you can stand this iron on end like a conventional steam iron because the power and steam hose enters the iron through a rotating ball connector. Highly recommended.

Wow, i hated ironing but this is the best iron ever, so easy and i actually found myself looking for things to iron on a bank holiday....thats how good it is. Only critisism is these types of irons do cause drops to form under ironing board which i could imagine would drip onto the floor if doing a massive pile of ironing. Not great but worth the inconvenience as its so goo. You also need to get a suitable board to go with it which i did or the water will collect between board and cover and become soaked.

I have returned this iron. The worst iron I've used. Creases still evident in clothes after ironing and deposits brown gunk despite using various types of water. Tap, filtered and distilled.It does an ok job and the soleplate is very smooth but the price of the iron is far too high. Way, way overpriced.Cannot believe all the good reviews of this product, unless I had a faulty unit. Not prepared to take a second chance and decided to choose another iron.

Very versatile, especially with the auto-temperature feature that senses what type of fabric you're ironing. I do find though, that the iron doesn't get as hot as my previous one when ironing cotton shirts. You just have to compensate by holding the iron in place for a bit longer than you might have done with more conventional steam irons.The downsides are that the storage for the power flex and the steam pipe are not very practical. You have to shove each in to a narrow space and it feels like you are somehow damaging the cable and steam pipe. They also don't fit all the way in.EDIT:Six months later, I'm beginning to find this a bit annoying as the steam will randomly come out even when the button's not pressed. Also, quite often, rather than steam being expelled, the iron emits a brown sludgy hot water that stains whatever is being ironed at that moment. Never had these problems on our previous Philips steam generator.

The steam is not as good as I was expecting.

Fantastic steam generator iron, light iron to use and glides through clothes very quickly.Not having to worry about the temperature for different fabrics is so useful. I have used generator irons for years and this is the best I have used. Very quiet too and you can easily iron whilst the family watch television with the minimum of disruption. The water reservoir is slightly on the small size but that's 'nit picking'. I love the colour too,, it looks very classy. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Well worth it.

Researched steam generators over a period of time and decided that I would need as quieter one as possible so set my heart on purchasing this Philips model. So far it has come up trumps. Doesn't hiss and spit unreasonably - you can listen to music easily whilst ironing, have a conversation without shouting and above all grow to quite like ironing!! Absolutely amazed that you can go from ironing denim jeans to a silk nightie without fear of scorching. Using this iron has made ironing less of a chore. Well done Philips!
