Great for amateur enthusiasts new to the aquarium world. Explains everything you need to know with some science thrown in.

For the beginner (which I am) a colourful book that answers a lot of questions I had on starting an aquarium. Better to invest in this book, before you purchase an aquarium it will make life easier.

Excellent book for beginners we bought my son a tropical aquarium it’s been 20 years since I had my last one and we wanted to make sure we understood the set up and upkeep this book explains everything for cold water, tropical and marine fish - easy read and inc nice pictures for supported learning

As someone who many years ago kept and bred many species of tropical freshwater fishes,( with an ensuite fish room containing upwards of 50 tanks) but has been out of the hobby for 30 years, I was recently asked to set up a community tank for my grandson. To refresh my memory and , more importantly to catch up with the latest ideas and technology I purchased this book. I found it covered the major points very well and kept me on the right track. It did however feel a little disjointed and I found myself constantly leafing backwards and forwards through it. All told however I consider it to be a worthwhile buy and good value, particularly for a newcomer to the hobby. One puzzling thing- there seems to be a great deal of emphasis on preparing tap water before adding. Does this mean that water companies are adding more chemicals these days?
