The GIMP Workbook: A Step-by-Step New Users Manual

I wanted to learn how to use GIMP to work with images. It was necessary to access a zip folder to follow the tutorial. I received the files the next day and began my training. Additionally, this book simplifies difficult concepts. I recommend this book to beginners like myself.

I recently purchased this book and I am about 1/4 through the instruction so far.The book is well written, concise, very nicely illustrated with color photographs, menu illustrations, tips and overall very easy to follow. While the menus are shown for Apple OS, I am using Windows 11 platform and there are a few minor differences in the descriptions; although nothing so far that isn't fairly obvious or easy enough to figure out.I contacted the Publisher via email to request the Image Folder mentioned in the opening of the book and described to contain the images used throughout the book for the lessons and instructive actions. I received a response along with the electronic zip folder within minutes, along with an offer to assist in any questions regarding the book, the lessons or GIMP in general--GREAT Customer Service!!I have been a technical illustrator, technical writer, and Electronic Engineer for over 45 years so I have seen the evolution of personal computers, graphic illustration programs and numerous instructive books to help users learn the particular programs they report to describe. Many, while intending to offer great instruction, fail bitterly; this book is on the far end of the positive scale and appears to hit the subject right on mark with a very understandable format and very nice presentation by the Author and the Publisher.If you are entering the world of GIMP, I urge you to look into getting this workbook; I am sure you will be pleased with the contents, format and overall quality.I am not affiliated with the Author, Publisher, GIMP or Microsoft Windows in any way or form. I tried several different ways to learn GIMP and the GIMP Workbook was by far the easiest and most effective -- and absolutely worth its $9.95 price. A YouTube video -- 2 hours long -- never answered many of my most fundamental questions. The tutorials on the GIMP site didn't seem connected to the current version of GIMP -- and again didn't answer my fundamental questionsI'm someone who is very computer literate -- if it's Excel or C++ -- but who has never worked with graphics software. So there's a whole bunch of stuff like Layers and Filters that I just don't know anything about. The GIMP Workbook leads you through these basic concepts in a way that's readily understandable . It took me the better part of a day to get through the Basics section -- doing all the examples. But by the end of that time I really feel comfortable with the basics of GIMP. I can bring in an image and manipulate it with some confidence. It's clear there is still an incredible amount to learn, but at least I know what is being discussed, and how to hack at the interface to try to accomplish what I want.

Fast and detailed support from the publisher and easy to follow instructions as compared to many other online videos and other books on the same topic.

Received the workshop file folder within hours of requesting them. The book is well written without all the fluff. I'm running Linux Mint and so far everything is on point. The best part is the continued support.

Had to contact company to have the pictures emailed to me so I could do the step by step projects. The response was very quick. Gimp seems to be a good photo edit software, slowly working through the book.

I think the Gimp Workbook is very well written and very user friendly book. Problem I found is either my computer will not load the entire Gimp free download or Gimp has upgraded the Gimp system since the workbook was published. With that said the detail instructions in the workbook no longer pertains. I have given up on Gimp and moved on to other photoshop program.

I used this book for my high school graphic design class. The exercises are great practice for beginners!

Have started to work through this book as a complete novice. Comprehensive and easy to follow. Brilliant online support from the publisher over an issue I had with the pictures, which was speedily resolved. Support could not have been better. Highly recommended.

Great Introductory book for beginners of this software with easy-to-understand step-by-step instructions.Probably the best GIMP instructional manual written.

This is a very easy to read technical document. Although not finished yet I find this is a good way to learn GIMP. The ongoing support from the author is excellent.

I have recently bought myself an expensive camera and taken up photography as a hobby. I am working through this book to teach myself how to use GIMP. The book is proving excellent as it shows screenshots of every step so I am never in doubt about what to do and where to click. Upon my request the publishers also provided a folder of all the photographic images used in the book so I can work using the same images as in the book. They tell you how to send for the image folder in the first few pages of the book.

The book arrived this morning. Extremely pleased with it, it is clear and concise. I have already been in contact with the Author via his email address printed on page 5 and he could not be more helpful.Well worth the money
