Q: Is this tool adaquate on it's own, or is a removal gel recommended to use as well?

I found this tool adequate for the removal of silicone. Does a really good job, was well impressed

Q: Can the blades be used on acrylic baths

I only used the metal side on the area of the bath that would still be concealed by sealant, once you have thoroughly cleaned it off and then applied new sealant. You need to angle the head sufficiently to ensure that you won't leave marks on the bath that could be seen. Mine is spot on and I used the best sealant I could get that is anti mold, not my favorite job but great satisfaction at the end of it.
