This is a very basic entry level device. But it is well made and solid. Feels good in the hand but dont expect to be able to see detail, you won't but what you will see is a blob of heat. It does detect subjects when reasonably close, say 10 feet but the larger the object is the better it will be seen thermally. for example a small bird at 10 feet will be detected but at 30 feet it will be hard to pick it up and probably not at all. However, deer or fox at much longer distances will register a heat signal. I have successfully found roosting Jack Snipe when close which would otherwise been flushed. This was very exciting by the way and made it worth buying but I quickly realised its limitations and wished I had bought more expensive model. So yes it works but I would have been better to buy the more expensive modules which work more effectively. But as a starter, go for it.
