Los Angeles photographer Mark Henderson is a highly regarded artist whose images of the male nude are among the finest. Fine art photography was not always his line of approach to the arts - his education and training is as an art historian specializing in Northern and Southern European painting of the 17th century. Although Mark wouldn't characterize his photographs as particularly Baroque or directly referential to art history at all, his first-hand exposure to and close study of great works of art must surely have influenced his work in some very subtle way. Mark has occasionally traveled to the desert and other remote outdoor locations for photo shoots, but he has always drawn back to the tranquil, relaxed atmosphere of a home where he can create images in which the models can be admired, indeed idolized, in a more private and personal way.COLOR EXPOSION is Mark’s scintillating new Calendar for 2018 and takes us back to Henderson’s private paradise, placing the viewer directly in the seat of his unmistakable style and perfectly showcasing one of the world’s most luxurious treasures: the male body. I have been buying male inspirational calendars since 2008. The reason that I only gave Mark Henderson 3 stars is because he utilizes one 16.8 x 11.9 inches page, date strip on the bottom. This is among the cheapest format Bruno Gmunder produces. Even Tom Daley's 2015 calendar is formatted where when hanging from the top, one has twice the available photographic space than Henderson and costs generally the same. I started checking out calendars around July. Unfortunately, I am comparing Henderson with Rick Day's 2017 BelAmi Gallery Size which opens with a masterpiece shot of Kevin Warhol.All of the men in Color Explosion 2018 are very attractive. With the exception of coverboy Derek, wearing white briefs, they are frontal. We are given more exposure of Derek in May. Most models show very large equipment. The only rear shot is the back cover of Prince - not the musician! There is a nice diversity of ethnic types. The only gimmicky aspect of the photography are two shots which show men in pants unzipped showing their large member. A few shots of moderate endowments would have been nice.

Not at all what I expected. Thought that, seeing the books published by Mark Henderson, the photographs would be similar to those. Instead, they are basically porn stills interposed in front of colorful backgrounds. Erotic is not what you should expect; however, if you do want just men "standing at attention" with vacuous stares on their faces, enjoy.Plus the "calendar" (lol) is a half inch strip at the bottom of the lackluster photos. Wish I could have seen the back cover before I bought this. Unfortunate.
