First Chord Progressions for Guitar: Learn the most important chord sequences for songwriting and playing guitar (Learn How to Play Acoustic Guitar)

Ok as an exercise book, poor as a primer
As a set of practice exercises to simply run through end to end it's ok. However, there's no theory tying anything together. Identical sequences in various keys are presented without pointing out their common sequence. Also some of the examples are just notated strangely, e.g. a bit in D Dorian is noted as if it's in D minor with a b natural accidental, masking the functional role of the chords. So if you are looking for a book of practice exercises with a chord progression theme then this might work, but it's not a useful introduction to chord progressions.

Not perfect, but good
This is a fairly good collection of guitar chord progressions. Many of these progressions are easily recognizable and are common in popular music. Others, such as the famous II-V-I progression, are musically challenging and can lead to some quite interesting ideas.Pratt does a favor to his readers by recommending a large number and variety of songs that aspiring rhythm guitarists can learn to practice these progressions. This is the highlight of this book, though I should note that the selections are fairly heavily weighed towards contemporary alternative songs. If this is not your style, I think you would do better simply listening to a wide variety of music and trying to learn songs that you enjoy. There are some problems with this book. Some of the left hand fingerings are impossible as written, though you can figure out different arrangements to make it work with few problems. Other small sections, such as the one on "two note shapes" and "three note shapes," are so simplistic and ill-placed as to be an insult to the serious student who has managed to come this far. The lists of common cord progressions aren't bad, but are awkwardly presented and take up a lot of space. You're actually better off using the tried-but-true "The Guitar Handbook" by Ralph Denver. All in all, this really isn't a bad guide. This is miles above "The First 100 Chords for Guitar" - in fact, you can ditch that volume and just use this one instead. However, the average student will run through this material fairly quickly, and will be itching for something with a bit more substance.

Very helpful for an intermediate player.
As an intermediate player it's a straightforward providing a guide to understanding, learning and using progressions. Not aimed at the beginner, so there's not a lot of elementary steps to skip to get to the heart of the matter. The use of the available audio examples is an easy download and well worth it. All chord diagrams are excellent. Highly Recommended!

Excellent for beginner to intermediate guitarists, and guitar teachers
An excellent introduction to chord progressions for beginner to intermediate guitarists. I am an advanced guitarist and still got some ideas for some new songs by studying this book. I think that it would make an excellent beginners book for guitar teachers, myself included. Too many beginner books focusing on sight-reading and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" type single note lessons, while most students want to strum chords!

One of the best by Jason
This is really great book and teaches you about writing chord progressions and what chords to use for so and so. I recommend it to the struggling guitarist wanting to compose

Great for learning "Practical Theory"
I used this book as a medium-beginner as a place to start. Does not really cover very beginner stuff such as tuning your guitar, but if you're past the bare basics than you can use this book. Great practical tool for making music and knowing what drives it, rather than just memorizing songs.

Went to download the audio and it isn't available from the website. If I'd known the audio wasn't available I would not have purchased the book.EDIT: I found the audio. The drop down menu had a different book title than the actual book. I selected that and it took me to another page where I found the correct book title.Five stars for Joseph at Fundamental Changes for reaching out to me via email almost immediately. I can't wait to work through the book. It is exactly as the title describes and very comprehensive.

Solid information
Once again a clearly written, easy to understand and follow instruction book from Fundamental Changes. Excellent breakdown and suggested use of all the chord progressions with some comprehensive routines to digest and practice. The only drawback is that to get the best one needs a PC to be able to download the audio as for some reason downloading to an iPad just doesn’t happen. I don’t own or have access to a PC. (Surely I can’t be the only person....); Otherwise 5 stars.

FANTASTIC - You Gentlemen have done it again!
Open Letter to Joseph Alexander & Simon Pratt of Fundamental ChangesWell gentlemen you have done it again. Joseph, I have been collecting you hard cover and ebooks since 2012 and you have never let me down.I am a 58 year old frustrated guitar player who has dabbled in and out of the guitar since I was 20. The hopes and dreams of being in the next big hair band sensation have long since faded away. But now with career and a family obligations slowing down, I have turned back to my love for the guitar. This I must admit, is nothing more than a huge 6 string frustration for me. My brain is not wired like so many of the naturally gifted players I see on YouTube etc. But I have read that the best way to keep the old grey matter in check and well exercised is to move out of your comfort zone. So learning to play the guitar is the choice I have made to fulfill that obligation. Thanks to you guys you have made that choice an easier one for me. This book breaks it all down from the very basics to stuff that you really have to dig into, all with clear notation and tabs below. Right out of gate you talk about strumming, this segment alone made the book worth every penny to me. I am glad that you have provided audio samples for EVERY one of the examples, this makes it very easy to follow and understand how the timing/groove should be. Also this was a brilliant idea, inserting links to video lessons on the Fundamentalchanges.com website. Simone your an interesting fellow who gets the message across very well. I would love to take a private lesson from you.Its no surprise to see that this book instantly became a best seller.Keep up the good work gentlemen.NDB - Canada
