The best thought out head torch I've owned.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this head torch. I've owned a small emergency head torch by Petzl before which was very well considered for its purpouse, so figured I couldn't go to far wrong with them - but my expectations were surpassed.A few things I love about it:- Build quality is good. Materials don't feel cheap or flimsy and it's well weather sealed.- Being able to have a rechargeable lithium battery in it but also use AAA's as a backup is the best of both worlds- functionality is simple, only 3 brightness levels on the main beams, and red solid/flashing mode.- the battery life indicator when you turn it on or offf is excellent and very handy- the ability to lock it with a long-press is something I don't know why isn't on every head torch, the amount of times i've found a torch dead after it turned on in my bag is beyond countingIf i had one complaint, it's that you still need to open up the battery compartment to charge it, rather than a USB port on the outside. I can understand that compromise though as it's a standard AAA battery compartment and the rechargeable battery is a removable item which the USB lead plugs directly into. I suppose that actually is rather handy, as it allows you to recharge it separately while using your backup AAA's to keep the torch in action.Overall verdict- excellent head torch with good life, plenty of light on tap, and some very well thought out design.

A beast. Brilliant if you want the expense.
A beast of a head torch/lantern. Lights up the Scottish wilderness, red mode powerful enough to work by while protecting night vision, comes with a lantern bag, and rechargeable battery / disposable option is safe and reliable. Awesome.

Bright, lightweight and reliable!
The PETZL Actik Core has exceeded all my expectations! As a rambler, I needed a headlamp that could handle outdoor adventures while being easy to use—and this one ticks all the boxes. The brightness is very impressive, with multiple lighting modes that adapt perfectly to different situations, from a soft glow for reading to a powerful beam for night use. The rechargeable battery is a game-changer—it’s environmentally friendly and lasts long enough for extended trips. I also appreciate the option to use standard batteries as a backup. The design is lightweight and comfortable, even for extended wear. The adjustable strap fits snugly and doesn’t slip, which is crucial when you’re on the move.Another standout feature is its durability. It’s built to withstand the elements, and the water resistance has come in handy during recent rain and snow.Overall, the PETZL Actik Core is a reliable and versatile headlamp that’s perfect for both outdoor enthusiasts and casual users. Highly recommended!

Super bright and great battery
Great headtorch, the battery life is great. I used this on an 8 day trek up Kilimanjaro and now use it for late night dog walks. Very robust, lightweight and the light has all the right functions from a wide light to flood a tent or an area to a very bright lime to look ahead on a trek .

Don't like the updated design
Unlike many of the online reviews for the new range of petzl lights, I'm not a fan of the new design.First, the angle of the leds in the unit: the previous design was perfect - in the highest position it pointed directly forward when the band was located snugly on the noggin, but now it points up. Not a huge deal, but if you lke to retract it fully when you take the light off you now have to adjust it every time you use it. I also find it more fiddly to adjust than the previous version. The battery compartment is *much* harder to open, and it hinges on a soft piece of rubber. How long before this tears? And you have to swivel the whole light body round to access the battery compartment, which is extra wear on the mechanism. Finally, the switch is now angled downward, and this makes it more awkward to press when wearing on the head.On to the positives: I love the simple interface, and the fact that it always starts in the lowest setting. Last mode memory is nice and all, but I much prefer to start in low, especially when batteries are running low. The light pattern is standard petzl fabulous, with great mix of spot and flood - no tunnel-vision here, and the quantity of light is great. The core battery is a great asset, and if that runs out you can slap in 3xAAA to get going again. :-)Overall I think the ergonomics have taken a backward step, so I'm returning this and will continue using my previous gen actik core (450 lumens is still pretty darn bright!). Maybe this is just me being picky, and if you buy it you'll probably love it. As ever, YMMV. ;-)

Great head torch
The media could not be loaded. Used this whilst hiking and wild camping on mountains and walking the dog at night. Comfortable, good value and the light is really bright. It has 3 light levels. Low, mid and high beam. I’ll attach a video showing all 3 settings for you.It comes with a rechargeable battery but can also use AAA batteries if needed.Great head torch. Looks and feels well built. Worth the money. Feels nice while wearing, not too heavy. Has all the functions you’d expect from a good quality head torch.

Light weight, bright and rechargeable. What's not to like.
Love this! Light weight, bright and rechargeable. The white carry bag works brilliant as a light diffuser and turns it into a little lantern.

Not great
Wouldn’t hold a charge, it’s not that great a light and there’s much better for a lot cheaper available
