The Peter Yarrow Songbook: Sleepytime Songs Hardcover – Picture Book, November 4, 2008

Peter Yarrow of "Peter, Paul, and Mary" has compiled a lovely book of beloved lullabies with an accompanying CD that contains 12 songs performed by Peter and his talented daughter Bethany Yarrow. I fell in love with this pair's voices when my preschooler and I listened to their rendition of "Puff, the Magic Dragon" in their children's book of the same name. This songbook has become another firm favorite at our house - the songs are soothing, and my almost 5-year-old who is also beginning to read, tries to sing along to the lyrics and the songs on the CD, which makes this not just a great book of "sleepytime" songs but also a wonderful teaching tool. The price offered here on Amazon is a bargain! The book is in hardcover, which makes it more durable, and the illustrations by Terry Widener are beautiful, with an almost magical, otherworldly quality to them.Besides the songs, the book also contains tips for those intending to play the songs, and there are also lyrics with chords provided. There is a brief background provided for each song, as well as some information about the author and illustrator. This is a wonderful book of beloved songs and is definitely keepsake quality. Highly recommended!

Wonderful book for musicians looking for simple guitar and lyrics to play for infants thru childhood. I had always wanted to learn to play guitar and bought this book. My adult son signed me up for a month of guitar lessons, and I learned how to play all the songs in the book, of which there are 12 including: Puff the Magic Dragon. The artwork is beautiful and the book includes a CD to listen to and if you are good enough, you can play along. I bought this with the intention of learning to play these songs to my new granddaughter in the years to come. And I am making progress.

We own 3 of the 4 Peter Yarrow song books. I love this one for bedtime. The only reason that I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that my son and I both like Favorite Folk Songs just a little bit more. Nonetheless, you can't go wrong with any of these songbooks!

What's not to like? Peter Yarrow and songs we all know and love! Besides the peaceful music, the illustrations are also very restful. Beautiful book and CD. It will soothe your little one to sleep and if you are not careful, you might be lulled into sleep right along with him.

Good choice of songs. My boys love them and a few of them have a deeply soothing/spiritual feeling. Our c.d. got scratched up and I had to order another cause I as mom missed it (have great memories of bed time and night light)! Really wonderful CD. Don't even know about the book - may have read it once!!

This book has wonderful illistrations; Peter Yarrow's voice is compltetly soothing on the CD and best of all my boys love it that i'm able to strum along and sing on my guitar using the simple chord arrangements at the back of the book. I love that I was able to appricate this music as a small child and now pass it on to the next generation

We love Peter Yarrow and his songs. The lullabies are great and the pictures are beautiful. We love the CD and my husband, the guitar player, loves that there's tab in the back so that he can learn to play along. Great fun for everyone in the family.

Grandson goes to music events at the library and in play group so he is developing music listening skills....loves the Yarrow books and recorded music; he asks for it to be played every time he visits our house.

So Americanised, some of the songs not what I was expecting from knowing the English versions at all! Nice music if that's what you're after
