2 hour project to install, but worth it because it's a great lock for the money
The lock does what you need it to do. It'll lock the gate and keep all but the determined out. The lock is attractive and it easy to operate. However, it's not the easiest to install. I installed it myself with the help of a friend. I don't have a 1/2" drill bit and I needed the friend's drill bit, or else I could have done it myself. I watched the installed video on this page and it was very easy to follow the steps from start to finish. Suggest to go slowly and be precise and accurate with the measurements and each of the steps and you'll be rewarded with a handsome lock that does what it's expected to do. The pieces are plastic but they'll stand up to weather a little better that if the internal pieces were of metal. If the lock gets a little sticky put a little white grease on the strike pin and that will help it to latch smoother.

Great Gate Latch
I mounted this latch on the gate rather than the post because the gate swings outward and cannot be re-hinged.It took a bit of math (Pythagorean theorem) to figure out the gate gap needed to allow the latch to clear the post when opening/closing the gate. I needed to notch out the gate by 1/2".I don't have much in the way of tools, so drilling the 5/8" hole was a chore (especially since it must be very straight). Also, my 5/8" auger wasn't quite big enough for the plastic piping used with a wooden fence. I had to do a bit of reaming before the pipe would fit.Once the gap and hole were done, the actual installation was easy. The latch works great.Getting extra keys was not quite as easy as the LokkLatch web site suggests. Home Depot could not match the key, even when I told them to try a "KW5" key blank.. Ace Hardware was also having trouble until I told them to try a "KW5" key blank (that did the trick).

it is not very easy to be installed on the gate.
I like that may e locked on both site of the gate.

Excellent quality
Excellent product, the only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is that when I open the latch using the button, I find that I need to push the locking mechanism back down in order for the button to reset...

Redwood Fence Gate Latch & Lock
After reading many of the reviews on this gate lock I decided to give it a try. I have two yard gates but I only bought 1 to try out. Instructions were pretty straight forward except the part about the plastic tube that is used on vinyl and wood gates. I installed the latch by myself and took my time with each step so it probably ended being about a half hour project. All is good and I am happy with my purchase. I plan on ordering a second one for the other gate and may go to the locksmith to see if I can get them keyed alike.

Provides zero functionality
I wanted to like this latch. I saw some of the negative reviews and tend to discount 1 star reviews as whiners who were unhappy about something else about the shopping experience or that simply weren't bright enough to figure out how to use it correctly. So I bought this piece of garbage anyway. And not just one of them. I bought one for both of my gates. PAY ATTENTION TO THE 1 STAR REVIEWS on this one.First of all the lock is all plastic. Including many of the working parts. And not some rigid space-age kind of industrial plastic, but rather a flimsy bendable nylon-like plastic. I'm pretty sure the lock wouldn't stand up to pressure from a stiff wind on it.The bigger issue is that the lock mechanism doesn't. It has one job ... to lock. If the lock is off of the gate you can twist the key in lock and you can hear this little plastic mechanism inside click to indicate it is locked. And then you can turn it the other way to hear another little plastic mechanism click. But the moment you place it on your gate post one or both of the keys stops turning far enough to click. It simply won't lock. And because the whole housing and assembly bends with the plastic feel of the mechanism you aren't sure whether you can apply any additional pressure without snapping something (either the flimsy key off in the lock or the plastic mechanism inside it). I seriously tried installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the lock about 5 times to see if I could get it in just the right spot. Finally got the key to lock the gate from the outside ... once. Then I could only get it to unlock the gate but not lock it again ... which really defeats the purpose of having a key on the outside of the gate. Then I wasn't able to lock it from either side. Seriously it locked a total of one time. Once. Uno.For reference, I am super handy. I grew up repairing small engines on my fleet of lawnmowers that I used for my lawn mowing business. I have remodeled three homes including plumbing, electrical, yardwork, flooring, etc. I have a cadre of tools and know how to use them. Honestly, I started taking this gate hardware out of the bag it is shipped in (yes, they ship it in a plastic bag) and immediately knew this thing was not going to stand up to regular use. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried installing it anyway. I now have a big hole in my brand new fence post, am unable to lock my gate, and in the three days since I tried installing it, the screws are already pulling out of the gate ... and the new gate is super light weight.Save yourself time, money, and the hassle of having to do an Amazon return and avoid this lock. You'll be doing yourself a big favor. Again, I seriously wanted to like this lock, but it provides zero value. It simply won't be durable enough to stand up to any kind of regular use (the screws are already pulling out of the gate after a couple days of light use while I tried to figure out next steps) and the locking mechanism doesn't provide any security. Even if you could get the lock to work, I have serious doubts about how long it would do so. I seriously doubt it would survive the 1 month the Amazon return window with anything more that the lightest amount of use on the lightest gate. This lock would not deter ANYONE who seriously wanted to get through the gate. It is total garbage.

Will not lock fully unless...
You have to hold the latch down in order for the lock to engage, no issues unlocking. So when on the opposite side of the main lock, I have to stick a bent rod through a fence opening to push down on the latch in order for my key to turn the lock. From the inside, no problems and overall very easy to install.

Well made lock
I really like this lock. It was really easy to install. It comes keyed to a Kwikset KW10 key; but I was able to rekey it to a KW1 fairly easily. It feels sturdy and well made.
