The Modern Web: Multi-Device Web Development with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript

Good content, poor printing
This is a well written, well paced introduction to modern web-based layouts. For devs who may have come up with CSS in the late 90s or early 00s, it offers a concise take on the way things are done in the mid-10s. For new devs, it lays out the expectations under which they are to produce.I am knocking off a star (it should be 2) for the poor quality of printing. The actual paper is nice, but the print looks like it was done in "draft" mode. I get better prints from my home laser printer. This is truly one of the first books that I would recommend the reader stick to the Kindle version.

Great and Speedy Introduction to HTML5
This provides a very quick yet thorough introduction to the world of HTML5 & CSS3. If you're like me, and dove into developing with these technologies as they were slowly but surely deployed by the browser manufacturers, you already have been using a lot of these new tags, attributes, techniques, etc. But having them spelled out, and how they came to be, in a single place is very useful. Plus, you'll likely discover a whole lot of things you somehow overlooked. I'd say 65% of the material I already sort of knew and 35% was brand new, so for a professional web developer, that's pretty good!

Interesting
This isn't a book for beginners, but I feel that it is still a good read, and gave me a lot to think about.

Good Book for boning up on responsive web design
I used this book as an introduction to techniques for building responsive web designs, transitioning to HTML5 and CSS + jQuery scenarios to develop same.

All you need to know about modern web technologies
Before reading this book, I thought this would not give that much new information or new tricks to develop web services. I was wrong. Peter Gasston have described in his book new web technologies yet simple that even novice would understand it but still serves great reading and learning opportune to develop yourself as web developer.I think this book is useful for everyone who are working with web or multi-device services or are somehow included to these areas. It would be useful for web designers to take a look for this book to understand what are possibilities to make new thinks.

The book old school HTML 4.01 css 2.0 developers should read to catch up.
I am an old school web developer who was mostly using the standard HTML 4.01 and css 2.0 which had served me all these years. However I felt I needed to do a little catching up and this was just the book to do it it with. Although I haven't really gotten through the entire book, just the first section alone, with it's extensive well written discussion on device screen resolution, adaptive vs responsive design, css pixel vs device pixel, was enough to make feel like this was the right book

Bloody good!
Have been in the industry for 12 years. Thought I knew everything, but clearly not.Aside from learning some cool new tips and tricks to apply to my work, it gave me stoke up regarding how exciting the web is getting. Cool things ahead!

Perfect for a technology update
Peter Gasston's book is a model of clarity with a sensible layout of the material and no-nonsense descriptions and examples. The Further Reading sections at the end of each chapter are well-focussed and particularly useful.Chapter 2 deals with structure & semantics and provided a line of thought that I had not really clearly considered before. I'm sure it will influence design and the markup conventions to be adopted for future projects. The real purpose in purchasing the book was to obtain an up-to-date view of device-responsive techniques and the book has served that purpose admirably.

ok
I have to say found it a bit boring, but some sections for first half seemed quite interesting.
