Kathy, the small brush has a head of 4 inches wide with the handle 7 inches long. The bristle area is 2 3/4 x 2 inches wide. My dogs are not small, but I like the small brush to get around the neck, chest and leg areas. But this I think is a personal preference. The small brush I have does have a button you press down to remove the hair. Hope this helps.
