A-Force 1: Hypertime

Solid First Volume of Kelly Thompson's Short Lived A-Force Series (You Will Want to Have Read the Secret Wars Tie-in First)
A-Force gets picked up for its own series following the Secret Wars tie-in volume that introduced a zone on Battleworld patrolled by an all female Avengers team. Led by She-Hulk, the A-Force came into conflict with Lord Doom over Singularity: a sentient pocket dimension in the shape of a small girl. Surprisingly, Singularity has survived the end of Secret Wars and returns to the main 616 Universe to reunite with the friends she made there. Sadly, none of them remember her but it won't stop Singularity and her bubbly personality from reforming the team (She-Hulk, Nico Minoru, Captain Marvel, Dazzler, and Medusa). When a second sentient pocket dimension creature appears made of anti-matter and sets its sights on destroying Singularity and ruling the Earth, the A-Force tenuously comes together to fight back against the being. The art and the writing are both great, however, you absolutely will need to have read the Secret Wars Volume 0 to make sense of the story. Kelly Thompson does a fantastic job with this series and the fact that it only lasts two volumes (not counting the Secret Wars tie in book) is a true mistake on Marvel's part. Anti-Matter isn't the most interesting of villains, but he is more of a plot device than a character at this point (his attack gets the team together after all). This book also includes the first issue of the Secret Wars tie-ins to familiarize readers with the concept of the team, as well as a throwback issue of the Avengers from 1963 that featured the Lady Liberators (a team of female Avengers who tried to "defeat the patriarchy" by beating up their male team members, though it ended up being a ploy by the Enchantress and hasn't aged that well).

Fun stuff
Enjoyable post Secret Wars reboot of the "lady" Avengers. While putting together a nice new team Wilson also does a good job in rebuilding the character if Dazzled. But will the comic still be around after Civil War II?

Fun read
Solid story. Some fun dialogue. I really like these characters and having them on the same team is refreshing. Thumbs up.

Amazing Characters!!
I loved A-Force. I'm glad I started after Battleworld. I wasn't very interested in that world from the bit I did read on it. I like seeing this team forming in this world. A-Force is made up of some really amazing characters.I did not expect to like She-Hulk as much as I do. She's so brave and just. She's wonderful. The more of Medusa I see the more I like her. She's appeared in Mrs. Marvel a bit as well. She's kind of scary. Not a bad thing at all. She's powerful and not to be messed with.I knew nothing about Nico Minoru because I still haven't read The Runaways yet but her abilities are so interesting to me. She's more than just a magic user. She has limitations that make her interesting. I want to read runaways to see more about her backstory. How she found out her parent was a villain. Her decision to branch away from them. It's interesting stuff.I want to be best friends with Dazzler. She's an angry rocker girl with some really badass powers. I've never really seen a power like it in anything. I want to read more about Dazzler.Dr. Bell isn't a part of the team directly but she works with Captain Marvel. She's a badass black female scientist in space. I loved her appearances in this issue. Then, of course, Captain Marvel is basically the boss of space so she's great. May need to read her solo series.I just loved this team so much. I loved seeing them come together in this really strange situation. Someone shows up claiming they know you and that in some other dimension you are a team. This team is different than the one Singularity knows of but it still works. They still come together. I really loved the progression of it all. Wish the next one would come sooner.

A solid beginning!!
I like when teams come together organically and A-Force does just that. Singularity and Antimatter are the two forces that are pulling these heroes together and I liked it. Its far from perfect but it was fun and not preachy as to why there is an all-female team. Nico will always be a favorite of mine and it continues here but its impossible to not love Singularity. The art by Jorge Molina was excellent. This was a fun beginning to, what I hope, is an excellent series.

Great Graphic Novel
I picked this up because it had Captain Marvel and Nico from Runaways, two of my favorite graphic novels. I was not disappointed and ended up loving it! I can't wait to read the others!
