You don't get much out of this book at all, a couple of code snippets and nothing you can't quickly glean from an introduction article on the net.Seems rushed, not worth the money, apress quality has gone down imo

Good read. When building a house, it is important to know the overall plan of the house, before getting to know the lay out of each room. Likewise this book provides an overview of the Lucene internals, its basic organisation and hierarchical structure. Probably a part 2 of the book will help to delve deep into the internal details of Lucene along with hands on practical examples.

Basic info, poor editing. Instead of a book, this should be five or 6 free blog articles.

Agree with other reviewer, the book content is rather suitable for few blog posts. The book only gives very-high level intro to topics, definitely not what it claims - "thorough knowledge of Lucene's capabilities ".
