This thing is awesome !
Actually I use it as a backup and also when I'm on a boat with lesser experience than myself captain. These hand-helds are very accurate, a unit you can rely on.

How is Garmin still in business?
Unintuitive, painful to use and interface with. Doesn't even come with preloaded maps. So while it has the capability of an amazing GPS system, its worthless out on the sea unless you purchase US Lake Inland maps which are an addition hundred dollars or so. Even with the detailed maps, I'm not sure how something designed to be so user UN-friendly starting from its interface, controls, and operation all the way to upgrading it and a non-touch screen display in 2024. I can literally buy a cellphone and put a waterproof casing on it and attach to a floaty device for the price. Sure it might not provide coverage as accurate if you're planning to really go out in the middle of nowhere, but for the casual user - it would beat this.

Difficult to use
The media could not be loaded. “I purchased this unit knowing little about it as there were very few reviews being that it was launched recently. The unit was received in good order. I was however extremely disappointed in the manuals enclosed with the unit. They are vague and generally unhelpful (borderline useless). Garmin has again piled so many features into this unit that you need a degree in computer science to take advantage of all that it has to offer. Navigation through menus is not the greatest and it is quite a bother to enter waypoints (of which I have many). At first, I could not figure how to even begin entering them and after much fiddling with the unit finally found a way to get them in, however, it was a rather tedious process for what should be a core function of a Marine GPS. Eventually I found a work around for this by downloading and installing Garmin HomePort onto my computer (which is not referred to on the Garmin site to support the unit nor the BlueChart G3 Maps (Southern Caribbean) which I also purchased) and entered them there (this sped up the process considerably), then transferred them to my handheld. It also took quite some time to figure out how to get the GPS to display all of the ocean contour lines which were available on my (separately purchased) G3 Maps for Southern Caribbean. I have used the GPS only once and after about two hours, the unit froze; no buttons worked and eventually the batteries had to be removed to turn it off. I plugged into Garmin.com and an update seems to have fixed the problem. It will certainly take me a while to acquaint myself with this unit and I do hope that Garmin will publish a better set of user manuals soon and find a way to make these units a little more user friendly.”
