PennSquall II Level Wind Conventional Fishing Reel

This used to be my favorite reel (model 30LWLC) until it broke unexpectedly.I prefer using a line counter for trolling from a sailboat, typically with banana sinkers or sometimes divers. One day, while trolling at a few knots, I got a strike, and the reel immediately failed, going completely slack. At first, I thought we had snagged some kelp. After struggling to hand-pull 150 feet of line, we reeled in an 82 cm (32 inch) lingcod. While it wasn’t a small fish by any means, it certainly shouldn’t have broken a reel of this size.Since then, I’ve been trying to repair it, but spare parts are consistently out of stock. Something I once really enjoyed has now become a major disappointment. I wouldn't buy one again.

30LWLC with 500ft of 60lb braid and 20 foot top shot of mono 50lb fills spool up and gets you to the bottom. I would recommend this reel very highly. For the money it perform better then expected. This one will be with me every time I go out.

Initially thought it was a drag setting issue, but it is not.Not only does this reel not retrieve, the spool lock is broken so it constantly lets out line even when 'locked'.First Penn reel to ever fail on me.Must have been made on a Monday.
