Learning React: A Hands-on Guide to Building Maintainable, High-performing Web Application User Interfaces Using the React Javascript Library

Absolutely amazing.
Absolutely blown away with how good of a book this is. I've been trying different tutorials, along with a couple of paid video courses. The video courses were fairly good, but they started off with complex projects and built them from the ground up. While it was cool to see how a complex app is actually built with React, there is no replacement for how Kirupa has figured out how to explain everything so simply. One difference here is that he starts with the very minimal things you need to know, explains those, and then expands to something a little more complex in the next chapter. This, combined with some humor, is just perfect. I've read a lot of IT and development books over the years, and I think this may be the best one I've read.I'm only around halfway done with the book, but wow, again, I'm blown away. I don't generally write reviews much, but I had to on this one. You're a natural teacher man, and thank you for this one! Seriously, thank you.If I could give this one more than 5 stars, I absolutely would.

Great book for beginners
This is a very well-written book that explains the basics of React very clearly. However, as is common with many "Learning ____" books, it's coverage is very shallow and the user will not learn anything other than the absolute basics. In addition, its focus on "clueless beginners" may turn off more experienced developers who take offense at having their hands held so tightly. However, they are not the users the book is targeted at so as long as you understand who this book is for and at what level, you will be very satisfied.

Clear, concise and entertaining
This is one of the better tech books that I've read. It's very clear, concise and breaks things down in a very logical and digestible way. Although I'm comfortable with setting up a typical build process, I think it was wise to put it towards the end and enable the reader to get up and running quickly. I read about 5 online tutorials on React before this and he actually covered some fundamental points that weren't covered by them. I loved the humorous and conversational tone of the book, but others might not, so check out a sample ahead of time to see if it's your speed. His example code actually works, which should be expected, but all too often doesn't in books by other authors. With that said, since things change in this industry at the speed of light, I'd do due diligence later to make sure you're up to speed on the latest developments in React once you master the fundamentals he describes.

Decent enough but lacking a lot.
I think this book for what it is, a simple introduction to react. With regards to what it actually covers I find it a bit lacking and while the examples are okay for a simple introduction they lack any real depth with building real world applications. The book hardly covers any ES6 stuff with react which is a pity also all the examples are inline scripts in html files which is less than real world. I read it from start to finish and while it helped me with getting some basics of React it's lacking a lot.I would rate it higher for how it's written and the small foundation that it provides you with but have to penalise it as it fails in the "Maintainable, High-Performing Web Application" part of it's title.

Skip the command line and learn how to build React apps first
I'm learning React (after learning many other languages over the years). This is the single best book I've read to get started with a new language! The author has a terrific sense of humor and a logical progression from front to back. What had been the bane of my existence for React - dealing with setup of Node.js using the command line interface and the many issues I had getting done - he eliminated and put toward the end of the book. I actually got to enjoy going through the book, and try it all out before dealing with the command line. Talk about getting off to a good start! I still have a lot to learn, but I feel confident that I can learn what I need to know.

Great content but should be shortened
Great but exceedingly verbose at time, it would have been preferable for the author to keep the book shorter because the content is good anyway. Instead it feels like code snippets are often repeated several times just to justify printing a book. Still recommended for learning react though!

Good, fast introduction.
This is actually a really decent, quick introduction. I liked the simplicity and the organization. While I gave this book 5 stars, I have one minor complaint: the author goes overboard inserting "cutesy" statements, emoticons, and off-beat humor into virtually every page. While I have no dislike of humor (especially when it comes to dry topics like web frameworks), this author went overboard. There were times where I just wanted to get at the content and felt irritated that I was reading words that were not that useful to the task at hand.Really, though, it's a decent book and it gets you up and running on the very basics very quickly.

Great for beginners
This is a great resource to get started with React, it takes absolute beginners, like myself, from zero to basic in a very humorous way.
