Just hot these holders and first impressions is they are very nice. Holes for hardware line up perfectly. The cuts are clean and debuted. Can’t wait to use them.

Who would ever waste $40 on a sand spike!
So it has been quite a while since I reviewed something. I'll start by saying my first thought when I saw this was why would anyone spend nearly $40 on a sand spike? I'm old school, I was cutting PVC spikes in Cocoa Beach FL for years.Well I recently made a trip to Edisto Island and their sand is not nearly as soft. PVC requires a mallet, which I didn't have with me. When I got back I searched sand spike thinking I'd get one of the manufactured PVC spikes because they are much thinner walled that schedule 40 PVC. That's when I saw this spike. And though my initial thought was why would anyone spend $40 for a sand spike, my next thought was about my daughter turning 18 early this years. Basically, I'm not paying a huge chunk of my income to child support, so what the heck. I ordered 2.I just put one of them together. My first impression was, I'm going to need to bring a step ladder to the beach to to climb up to put my knee on the knee rest. The next thing, was Wow this is STURDY! With the knee rest as high as it is you have about 2 feet of serious heavy duty aluminum spike you can drive into the sand. With the L angle instead of a tube, the sand will be displaced to the sides rather than concentrated in the center of a tube. That alone will help with stubborn beaches. The knee plate is a very sturdy piece of metal that won't bend even if my weight continues on its uphill climb. With that you can bury this thing easily to a point where your rod is secure even if you have your drag set heavy.Honestly, I'm a month out from my next beach trip and I can't wait to get there and try these out. They are on the heavy side, but I also have a fishing cart, so that's a non issue. I'm probably going to design 2 utility boxes to 3-d print that slides onto the knee rest. One to hold various fishing items, and one to hold a water bottle.

Durable
A bit heavier than expected, did not use the “knee plate” to cut weight and no real need for it if your surf fishing sand.

The beast and I went fishing…..
I arrived at my destination… the beach….Surf City NC….excited to surf fish for the first time in years. I knew with a 12 foot rod I would need a heavy duty rod surf spike. Got my mess organized…set up the beast…. Wow…. with ease….the beast went in the sand like it owned it. The tide was coming in …. I had to move my cart with cooler, my chair….twice…. But the beast…. it stood its ground…. not even yielding to the waves….for six hours the beast took the pounding of the relentless unmerciful oceans power….and yes…I did catch some nice fish….three flounders…. naturally….had to release….. not in season….overall…. The beast out performed any rod holder I have ever owned. And yes I ordered another one…. If…. You don’t have a beast…. Get a few….

This is the sand spike to get!
This sand spike drives into the sand easily. It's super sturdy . I use it to hold my Avet 80 wide. The little piece of angle makes it easy to put your knee on it to help get it I to the sand. It is extremely heavy duty and made to last. I've bought 4 total . Spend the money and get the quality !

Now I Know WHY They call it The Beast
This is my 7th Surf Rod Holder but 3rd one of this Caliber. I've also got the Fish n Mate 266 - Very similar in Function. The Beast ii several inches longer, which was important to me but I was surprised at how much heavier it was than the Fish n Mate. Not a bad thing, unless weight is an important consideration for you. The extra weight comes from the extra thickness and length of the Spike. Ultimately, I've purchased 2 of The Beast and 1 of the Fish n Mate for the best of Both Worlds. I like the "Ruler" that the Fish n Mate has so I can measure my fish right there and I like the Foot T Bar to help wedge it into the sand. I Like the Knee Ledge to wedge spike into the sand But More Importantly, the Longer Length and Strength of The Beast to hold my 12 & 15' Surf Rods so I'm easily getting over the waves with my line and my rods not leaning over from the weight & pull. Super Solid !! Great Product!

Expensive, works well
I purchased two of these. They give two long screws for the knee bracket and two short for the pole and shovel. Realistically they should supply three long. One of my screws and washers came off because there was barely enough thread left.
