Good value !
I just received the sds1104 in.Nice and light, feels solid.Internal power supply +1.I've lived with 2 ch analog scopes most of my career on the bench. When DSO's were introduced, the HP was one of the first, with the tetris easter egg, you had one per department.. and normally use was a analog 2ch 20-30mhz scope and a polaroid scope camera and fridge filled with film for the every day work. Time for some hard problems , or documenting final config and performance..... HP DSO and a 540 inkjet. OR taping polaroid pix in the note book.Shooting back into the recent future..I wont buy anything but a 4ch, lived soo long with the 2 ch restriction, unless you had a Tek cart scope with a bunch of plugins for the price of a car back then. In the military contractor companies, would have 1 or 2, but commercial companies didn't spring for such an expensive pcs of equipment.I have a far more expensive Siglent 4ch , and it stays on my bench.Tired of the 1ch and 2ch handhelds I have, wanted something with 4channels, and the Siglent is not coming off the bench.I sprung for the sds1104 cause it seemed for the price, it wouldn't be bad to tote around and be far better then the handhelds scopes I have. The 4 included scope probes are of nice quality. The hooks seem rugged as does the replaceable ground lead.Compensation adjustment tool is good quality, good small metal tip. Can't tell you how many inexpensive probes come with a total plastic tool , right down to the tip, useless. most of the adj caps are not easy to turn, and thin plastic blades don't hold up.W/O the manual or software, I dug into all the basic use features, so fairly intuitive. The trigger functions are "right on top".Easy to turn on or off the channels you want and don't want.Scope probe color rings are co-ordinated with the trace colors and labeling on the front panel. Just have to change bands on two of the probes.I haven't dug into it's FFT or math functions, but really haven't planned on using the sds1104 for that.As mentioned, I have my Siglent 4ch, and Siglent generator all setup for that, as well as bode plots. Inside the Siglent brand some of their scopes can control their generators to automate testing, such as the bode plots. That is more bench engineering work, which is not what I bought the owon for.Another topic for scope users of today....logic analyzers.Other more expensive scope, you can purchase an add on such as a logic analyzer adapter of 16 (or more). So again something for later, after your starter scope.. if you get into needing a logic analyzer you'll need to step up to a more capable scope. Or maybe a dedicated logic analyzer.Or if you know that's a function/feature you'll need now, cause that is your area of work / study, well than cry once, and jump up into a more expensive scope. I don't see the need for me, but my Siglent can do that. I went with the Siglent for my main scope cause of the external generator integration. If I needed a logic analyzer, I could spend the money on the add on adapter. But for level of logic work I do, 4 ch has been enough. So that's where I topped out for my main scope.I think anyone starting off in STEM and wanting a good starter scope (and understands what they need and don't need), 100mhz, 1g sampling (@1ch - but typical on a budget DSO), 4chs in, lots of basic functions, PC interface (screen grabs all day long ! - no film or ink or paper :O).The SDS1104 is a great little scope and Value.I have too many O'scopes, said no one.

Functions as described
My preliminary testing seems to indicate this unit is functioning at or above specifications. Although this unit dose not have all the bells and whistles found in similar units in this price range, it is a exceptional bargain.

The remote USB control is very limited or mostly doesn't work.
I was hoping to use this scope at a remote site where I could control it using its USB control port. Its PC software does let you download waveforms from the scope, which is nice, but has a problem when I try to remotely change the scope settings. After much frustration I finally gave up and decided to return the unit.

Very Good Scope for the Price
I have had the scope for a week, and it has been very useful for digital debug.I have not yet used most of the features, and in particular have not used the USB connection stuff. My big gripe is that the buffer is very small: 20k words is not enough to capture a packet. You might want to consider the OWON XDS3104E or the OWON XDS3064E, which cost twice as much but have a lot more buffer memory.
