Q: Is it possible, or better, reasonable to flatten natural sharpening stone with this diamond stone (DBSC 6-Inch COARSE Diamond Bench Stone )?

It will cut a waterstone, and I guess diamonds would cut an Arkansas stone, but the DBSC stone I received isn't flat, so I wouldn't use it on a waterstone. Check yours with a straightedge from end to end. Mine shows a considerable gap in the middle. I use it on kitchen knives, and it works great for that, but I don't use it on my woodworking tools.

Q: Should water be used with this sharpener

You can use a honing solution if you like but these should not be used with water.

Q: Will this work for ceramic-coated knives?

Smith's does not recommend this product for ceramic-coated knives.

Q: Mine came looking a bit dirty and with some oil residue. Did anyone else have the same experience? Or did I get a used one?

I'm pretty sure the oil is to keep the metal from rusting but the dirt I'm not sure why. I can only figure with the oil any dirt would sticks more. But if there is no lines like a knife has been passed over it then you don't have a used stone.
