What, no C++ MFC development?
It seems to be hard to find a book on this tool for MFC in C++? I doubt everyone is headed toward C# F#, etc. Any efficient advanced program with a need to do heavy lifting for programs (I hate the word "App") like Photoshop, 3DS MAX or even the small program I wrote to animate hundreds of particles in gravity fields, needs to do it in C++.I retired almost 20 years ago, using Visual C++. I just got back to it as a hobby. I had forgotten a lot, so I was looking for a refresher. I managed to figure out how to get around from some YouTube Vids.Three stars for explaining the updated interface.Hint: Look for books on learning only C++. Some of them use Visual Studio. Like: Learn C++ Quickly, but not the Kindle version because screen shots are light print that are almost invisible on the Kindle.https://www.amazon.com/Learn-Quickly-Beginners-Programming-Hands-ebook/dp/B08DZ3NY6Z/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=learn+c%2B%2B+quickly&qid=1633788202&sr=8-3

It is a great book but virtually zero C++ Windows Applications
I bought this book in the hopes that it would detail how to create C++ Windows Applications. Unfortunately, they mostly focus on C#, Visual Basic, and HTML. Even the Windows Applications chapter falls short, and mainly talks about forms and dialogue boxes. Actually, the book focused on about everything except C++ windows applications.No talk about accelerators, using a menu or a ribbon and linking those to code, nothing.The chapters that talk about project deployment will come in handy and are VERY detailed and helpful, including photos of dialogs that appear as you are clicking your way through deploying a project for installation on another computer. I just wished that there was at least a couple chapters dedicated to Windows Applications, as Visual Studio 2010 has several tools (including the ribbon) that are what I am looking for in terms of programming. Unfortunately the book falls short in that category.Another chapter that will come in handy is deploying program updates and patches.If you are looking to use Visual Studio 2010 for anything else, I would recommend this book. Otherwise, it is great to have around as a reference just in case I need it for other Visual Studio features, but in the meantime it is collecting dust.

Good Book Specially For The Beginners
Even though this is a professional version, it is very good for the beginners. Even though I have not completely read this book but the starting chapters gave some very useful tips that I was not aware off even after working in .Net background for over 7 years. Wish I had read this book during the start of my career.

No coverage of C/C++
I bought this book after being tasked with upgrading some C++ code from VS .Net 2003 to 2010, and from XP to 64-bit Win7. Unfortunately, this book doesn't discuss native code generation at all. Only about 10% of the book is relevant to my project, namely some of the info about the IDE, and dealing with solutions and projects - and most of that, I already knew because it hasn't changed much since 2003. The other 90% of the book mainly deals with .NET/C#/VB issues, and appears to be very good if that's what you're doing.

Title
Wow! There is so much here! So much more than I expected. I learn something everytime I open the book. It seems a bit hard for me to adapt to the suffistaced terminology. But I suppose that is necessary. I love the book and although I need to read each part, then go back over it again, (often more than once) to get a better idea of what it means, it is very helpful! I'll hang in there and it will keep helping me.

Another reference book
I jumped from VS 2005 to a brief VS 2010 then right to VS 2012. Since there isn't a VS 2012 book I am relying on this book for help. It helps a little. I found VS 2005 material to be as helpful if not more helpful. For example a ,Net 2.0 book on themes showed me how to setup intellisence in the skin file and a solution for the error message. A reference book get it if you like books to get some type of answer using the index.

Good introductory book.
This book covers a good amount of features in Visual Studio 2010 which are very useful for beginners. The content of the book is helpful in general.

Good overview of VS 2010
I have not used Visual Studio since VS 6! Long time. So when I got a new position working in .NET and with VS 2010, I knew I needed some extra reference material.I have been seriously impressed with VS 2010. A bit bulky, but wow is it powerful! This book has covered all aspects I have needed.

Not useful
This is a big book, over 1000 pages which tries to cover almost every single subject dealing with Visual Studio 2010 and .NET development. It becomes obvious that such a task would require tens of thousands of pages and it is not surprising that in the end the book doesn't accomplish much.On the positive side, it touches on a plethora of areas of development which may be useful to some on their quest of finding out what one can do with .NET and Visual Studio 2010.On the downside, the book is an extremely "light" introduction to .NET development topics. To give an example, the topics of WinForms, WPF and ASP.NET are covered in approximately 120 pages in total! If you consider this sufficient guidance to create "cutting-edge applications" with these technologies then this book might be for you.It was certainly inadequate for me and hence the low rating, I would not recommend it unless you are looking for a very high-level introduction. You would need a number of other books in order to get to "professional" level, this book alone won't do!

Professional Visual Studio (Wrox)
This book assumes that the reader knows programming in their chosen language (VB or C#) and then, details how this can be achieved in the Visual Studio environment more efficiently.What I have read so far has covered a lot of the areas that many programming books won't; valuable aspects of VS that might never be discovered otherwise. Leaning about the many tools and features discussed will lead to much easier, more productive programming and debugging. Code illustrations can be downloaded from the Wrox website.Another great book from Wrox publishers.

Worth buying
This was definitely worth buying. I studied computing degree at university, and I thought that the level that this book was at was excellent. It gives great information about the software and also how to use it, was definitely worth purchasing when I was trouble shooting.
