Action-ready recipes and concepts. David saves me so much time and money gardening!
I've been using one of David's recipes for years before buying the book (he's generous on youtube with a lot of this info). And his "fetid swamp water" is great stuff! It's also a lot less labor-intensive than many of the compost methods I've seen and tried. He has saved me A LOT of money on garden nutrients and soil amendments. And my own growing tests confirmed his method worked better than Miracle Grow.I love that this book empowers you so you don't have to break your back to make compost and you don't have to buy expensive equipment, either.I found the book a deeper dive on this topic so I have a better understanding overall now, and it's a quick reference on how to safely compost a lot of things we have been typically advised to put in the trash. He covers so many methods, recipes and topics, comparing them and their pros/cons for different situations and materials. It's an info-packed book that is written in an easy-to understand layman style, no science degree required to comprehend. I'll be using this book for years a reference guide. And it is funny, David makes fun comments and tells little stories throughout. I think you'll enjoy it it!

Excellent advice, inspires me to go out and fix my desert clay!
Always fun to read. I devoured the book the day I got it. He really knows how to give you that push to really go forth and compost.I really like how he points out how wastes are fertilizers, seeing a mindset shift from superspecialized composting rules, to jumping onto the cycle of the cycle of life, turning all wastes into new life. It's very good, inspiring, practical stuff. The mindset shift we all need to actually make productive gardens.(the only part I disagree with him on is his attitude toward modern substances/chemicals/pesticides as breaking that cycle of life. They don't completely. Just makes the cycle take a lot longer to complete....[e.g. Grazon killing your garden beds off for 5 years], a lot of pesticides are just copied off of plant toxins that plants use to fight other plants (or bugs trying to eat them). Antibiotics are literally copied from fungal defenses against bacteria. Science does not make thing ex nihilo, after all....Watching my kid's plastic yard toys disintegrate in just 2 years of desert UV light, picking up the crumbling scraps of once mighty plastic... Man's puny attempts are small in the face of nature. Nature is a force to be reckoned with. Even plastic trash islands in the ocean became floating reefs of vegetation and fish swarms...) sorry about the long digression. An excellent book. The goat head portion made me laugh until the tears came. I have not laughed like that in a long long while. Now, i'm off to compost!

Well worth $15 on its own, and led me to a free book on humanure, tremendous value
If $15 is too steep, at least watch the movie by same title, and also search out the free pdf on humanure. David is like a black belt at composting, while Jenkins is more on the level of Jedi master. It is mindblowing on a level, in the realm of gardening, similar to what learning about anarchy is like in the realm of government.Things I recently learned about soil amendment (concepts are not new, I just never knew....)1) steer manure (and hay) can be contaminated by persistent herbicides, and poison your plants2) biochar is a thing - skillcult on youtube best explanations3) instead of complaining about a weed tree that won't die, just keep chopping and dropping (this book)4) you can bury things like logs to create a nutrient and moisture reservoir (this book)5) humanure is a thing - and you can use sawdust or similar to control odor and flies from "no-no" items people usually wouldn't compost. mindblowing. I wouldn't have found that info, except through Jenkins book, and I found that because it's referenced in this book.It is interesting that D the G still recommends anaerobic methods like burying things (and I think it's certainly a better option than throwing away), but Jenkins is adamant that soil contact is a problem, anearobic is to be avoided, and no turn aerobic composting is 100% the right thing to do. I don't have a lovable loo yet, but it's a possibility in the future, and I am starting a new compost pile the Jenkins way, starting this morning.

David is Awesome
His books are funny , down to earth and just so practical for anybody trying to grow anything in Florida. He thought me to just grow what naturally grows in our zone. Daaaa. We northerners need to adapt to our new environment and stop fighting the system. I love the Lasagna composting suggestion. As a woman I don't care to build fancy composting bins. He also has his stuff on YouTube. He really is a good guy and so smart and honest.

Excellent little book with a lot of easy to understand info
I have both the printed and audio versions of this book. I have read it or listened to it probably a dozen times. Every time I do, I pick up more ideas that then I can try at my place. Many of them work others don't. And that's OK. It all depends on my own conditions. The best part of this book is not just the information but the inspiration and the spark of new ideas that come to mind as you read it. It is also a great gift to your friends and family!

Simple and Great Message
David the Good shows you that you can compost practically everything, and that it's not hard to do. You can use the compost for your garden or, if you're not a gardener, you can use it to help your trees or just to reduce the amount of garbage you throw away. And David has a nice friendly writing style.

Good grasp of the obvious.
I was surprised a little. I have been composting for years using the Berkeley method. The info in the book seemed to rehash everything I already knew. But there were still nuggets of information that made the method clearer. I gleaned enough information to free me from my preconceptions about composting. My knowledge of the composting methods was well rounded with this book. But I'm still too squeamish for some of the methods, humanure is out for me! Sorry!
