Happily surprised!
Had this for a couple weeks now. Tried Epson and HP prior. My HP and their garbage customer service was infuriating. Planned obsolescence. Got a couple years out of each but thoroughly disappointed in lack of quality and ability. After an hour of trying to print a page on my HP, rage won. If been doing research for a few months and decided on this based on high yield, cheaper ink replacement cost, price point, and ratings. Reviews scared me but not worse than others I suppose. First problem people mentioned was needing to clean printer heads basically every day. I'll go several days without printing and it's fine. Other complaint is it takes "forever" to come out of sleep mode. When mine doesn't print instantly, it just takes a couple seconds to start spitting out papers. The printing speed of this thing makes me giddy. And it is sooooo quiet. I've only used the "draft" quality settings with "plain paper" and it's better than the best settings and paper on my old printers!! I haven't been able to really play with it much yet, but I have an endless list of projects I've been wanting to do! I'll start chopping away at that mountain with this printer and update this review if anything is disappointing. So far, only good things to say! Also, set up was fast. Little complicated because there's add ons that came and I don't understand. But I'll finger it out 😊😁

DO NOT PANIC ! It DOES have a USB connector but it's under the cover, but that's ok!
DO NOT PANIC !! This printer DOES have an INTERNAL USB connection. IT is INSIDE the printer. It is still fairly EASY to get to and setup for USB.There is *NO* EXTERNAL USB connection. CAREFULLY and PATIENTLY READ the Quick Start guide. There is a small diagram showing you how to LIFT the top of the printer to connect your USB.So far, LOVE the printer! Fast Quality printing. I haven't tried its wireless yet.I think I like how it loads ink into tanks. We will see. It was easy to do.This is a PC Magazine Editors' Choice printer by the way.

Update: 8 months of ownership, and it's already a useless piece of junk.
Update: I've only had this printer for 8 months and it is a useless piece of junk. I've spent hours on the phone with Brother support, wasted gallons of ink "cleaning" it, and the print quality only gets worse and worse. I'm done with this thing and never buying another Brother product. This is ridiculous. My next step is to compel Brother to honor their warranty. After 12 years of hard service and expensive ink, I retired my HP printer and tried this Brother. Here are my first impressions:The Misses:1. I hate the 1980s grey plastic design. It looks like crap on my desk, particularly since all the rest of my computing equipment is black, but I was buying for functionality, not style, I guess.2. I have postage stamps that are bigger than the LED display on this thing. It's not easy to see and you have to scroll down to see some of the messages the machine is providing.3. The set up is kind of clunky and involved compared to other printers. Some set up is done on the machine, other parts are done by going to the Brother website where you have to figure out where to go to download the drivers. I was looking for something on the website home page that said "set up your printer here", but instead you have to hunt around.4. During the set up process, it asks to download several ancillary services. These are not well explained, and I may have inadvertently downloaded annoying bloatware. We'll find out.5. If you are considering printing photos with this machine, just stop and move on to something else. My HP was far better. The photos are crisp, but the Brother interprets certain colors in bizarre ways. For example, white tents are rendered in light blue. Looks very strange compared to the actual photo.6. The power cord on this is ridiculously short compared to my HP, and I pretty much had to change my entire desk set up to stretch the cord far enough to reach my power strip.7. It wouldn't kill Brother to give you a printer cord if you want a wired connection. Fortunately, I was able to reuse my HP cord THAT CAME WITH THE MACHINE.The Hits:1. Printing a standard page of text with an illustration or two is lightning fast. I've never seen an inkjet as fast as this.2. Standard printed text is very sharp.3. It's more compact than my old HP All in One, mostly because the paper tray doesn't stick out an extra 5 inches on the side.4. It is much quieter than the HP, which would go through a lot of noisy gyrations just get itself prepared to print.I'm not sure I did the right thing in buying this printer. I wanted to be thrilled, but so far I am not.

Not a bad printer, just frustrating setup
The main reason I'm giving it 4 stars is for the wifi setup. First I got this to replace an HP printer that was bought 2 months ago that broke down due to a software glitch. So decided to get this one. The unique ink to tank system was intriguing and it says it will save you on ink, which would be nice. But here's the problem in setup and it gets wacky. So once you go through every step with ink etc, the little menu screen it says go to the brother website on you mobile or PC. Problem is when go and says to setup wifi, the screen is still saying go to the website, after watching videos and the app and setup software saying the same thing and actually initially ordering a USB cable, resetting my router from Xfinity and the printer by unplugging, I just set there trying to wonder if have to return it, the screen goes to sleep and what you know the main screen is on and was able to setup wifi. Here's the problems, you not told that it's so many seconds to minutes before that boot screen with the message of going to the main screen, and while that message is on your not going to be able setup wifi. Also the mobile app setup shows you a wifi button well the two buttons it shows aren't the ones you need to look for, you'll either hit one the print buttons or the power button, the button you need to press is the down arrow key for seconds (hope that helps anyone frustrated). Print speed is ok, used to other printers being a little faster. Other than the printer speed and the frustrating wifi setup, so far overall it's not a bad printer. Also bought it, because Brother has factory location in my city. Hoping maybe printer future software updates will fix the screen load time to main menu.
