Good read for Java 8 / OCPJP
Its a best book for understanding Java 8 in detailed. I started reading this book just for having glimpse of Java 8 additions, however ended up reading whole book. All over the book, I personally liked the way topics are explained with aptly hand picked examples. This book starts with FAQ which explains in-and-out of OCPJP, a nice start for any newbies. Authors covered Java 8 specific features like Lambda Expressions, Stream API, parallel streams for concurrency and new Date API in clear manner. However it doesn't mean they left out basics though, core java concepts also manifested in deep. As a final touch, there was a fine collection of questions under the title "Mock Exam".

Good Quality Book
I was looking out for quality sample questions to prepare for OCPJP 8 exam but also wanted to read about Java 8 features. So I bought this book and Java 8 features were explained in detail with amusing examples. Also the questions in each chapter of the book are of high quality and the mock exam is really good. A good read.

Worth a read
As an experienced Java programmer, I planned to take OCP certification and was looking for a book that could help me on getting up to the speed with new concepts such as lambdas, functional interfaces and streams.I am truly amazed by the content of the book especially the exam watch tips provided through out the book and Question time section provided at the end of each chapter. The questions in this book are of high quality and tricky, with the detailed explanation to each Q & A made me to understand the concepts very well and I could gauge how the real exam questions can fool me.

Great read for learning Java 8 concepts
I wanted to prepare for ocp 8 exam and wanted to learn java 8 additions like streams, lambdas, date and time api, etc - this book does an excellent job in covering the new features in java 8 very well. There are some rough edges in the book, but overall, its an excellent preparation resource for OCP certification. My recommendation: definitely go for this book - not just to get certified but to learn core java well and apply it in your regular work.

Good book with useful resources
Good book. Since the source code is available for free download, trying out the programs along with reading helped in having better understanding of the concepts. I think ocpjava.wordpress.com is also maintained by authors, I find very useful resources there.

No nonsense, this book gets straight to the point.
This is the third OCP 8 book I've read and by far the best. The other two were the two most popular, one is full of errata and the other is long-winded and full of time-wasting jokes. This has no errata that I've noticed and no wasteful extra text. It is very comprehensive however, and written in a style of English that is perfectly straight forward and unambiguous. The code samples are very good too. One last thing is that the paper used for this book is very heavy and high quality, I use highlight markers a lot and these pages don't leak through at all which was surprising.Highly recommended.

Good, but polluted with typos
The book is quite good, particularly if you're like me and used to Java SE 7 edition to prepare for that exam. I am annoyed with the large number of obvious typos and mistakes in the text. Did anyone proof-read this thing before they mass printed it for sale? Like the review section that is titled in bold print: Q0075ESTION TIME.
