Q: How wide is it? My grommet is 1/4” diameter.

It's probably too big for a grommet that small. I suggest using a smaller size threader. A plastic needle used for sewing with yarn would work.

Yes. It's very flexible and the 1" holes expand to make a circle instead of the thin oval shown in the picture. Multiply the 2.6 cm width shown in the photos by 10 to calculate mm. The photos provide good examples of the things you can thread with this tool.
