Is there an opening for activated carbon filters?

There's no slot in the mask for a filter. That said, the masks are so XL, it's easy to put another mask inside, which I do. Because these are XL and comfortable, they're easier to wear.

I have a large head (7 7/8 hat size) and I have a beard. Will this fit me?

My head is at least as large as yours, I have a closely trimmed beard, and there is still abundant room inside the mask. I have a hard time finding masks that fit; most disposables ride up off my chin into my mouth if I as much as smile. I wear these over a large disposable mask, and it's fine. My only very minor complaint is that just a little scalloping under the eyes might make it more comfortable, because it sometimes touches my lower eyelids. My wife bought these for me, and I liked them so much, I ordered a second set, so I wouldn't have to launder them as often.

I see that some say two or threes layer which is it?

How do I get my mask to stay 2 inches off my face like the totally not photoshopped picture above?

You have to grow a Santa Claus Beard and Mustache. They are truly designed to fit over both your beard and mustache snuggly.
