Not directional. Software didn't load or boot, and according to other reviews contained malware. I am able to pick up signals from a mile away line of sight, but only with the antenna pointed down at the Earth.

I use Linux and didn't need the CD, so I had none of the issues experienced by other customers. The range is less than half that stated for indoors. This thing may get 200 yards indoors and I doubt it will get 500 yards in the open. for the 25 bucks I paid, it was worth it and got me connected.

dont buy this
It came in a plastic bag with everything loosely thrown in there and the installation CD was cracked so it was completely useless. Immediately returned its and dont plan on getting it again.

I SEE WHY IT IS UNAVAILABLE! WHEN I PUT CD IN IT HACKED INTO MY COMPUTER! I HAD TO DO A FACTORY REBOOT....LOST ALL COMPUTER INFO TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY INFO & COMPUTER.DOES NOT WORK!! WANT TO SEND BACK AND GET MY MONEY BACK.
