Q: What type of mesh is it?

Just sort of plastic netting, but heavy duty. My daughter has anxiety and it was a very quiet fidget tool to use at school.

Q: All of ours had a string hanging on one side and the marble shot out the end within 5 minutes. Was my box defective?

I bought these for my class. At least 3 of the 16 had marbles come out within minutes or during that day. I hot glued the broken ones in hope that the marble stays in place now. 😬

Q: Is the mesh soft or is it a little scratchy?

Pretty soft but edges may be a little scratchy

Q: What do you do with these?

They are a fidget. Kids or adults can move the ball around within the mesh to keep their hands busy and allow them to better focus or relieve stress. My sons have ADHD and Autism and love them,
