Great value for 2 vehicles/minifigs. More detail than lego, but also not as good in some ways
This is a great value for 2 vehicles plus 2 minifigs. If getting as a gift, though, please realize the advantages/ disadvantages of getting a model car vs a set of building blocks...Normally the mega are more like models that you put together and never take apart. The box even turns into a makeshift display stand for it. A lot of the pieces are highly specialized to the vehicle, meaning they'll be difficult to build something else out of.This set is definitely more flexible than most. On the truck you can attach something to the bed, or maybe hook a trailer up to it. But the ATV is very flexible, you can add a bigger motor, a trailer, wings to make it a flying car, etc. So this set is more flexible in that way than most mega sets. And yes, mega is compatible with lego in that it's the same block sizes, but please realize that many of the specialty pieces won't be compatible.Just know what the child is into - I believe one of the best most engaging activities is building with your hands from scratch, and if the child is starting out with building bricks, the best gift is just a big tub of bricks. But if the child already has that, or is a little older and really into hot wheels, this is a great set.The minifigs for mega are quite a bit different than lego. The holes on his rear end don't really match up with the seat, it's kindof difficult to get him lined up and push him down on the seat.I don't like that the minifigs have no personality (and no face LOL). Hotwheels has licensed characters, why not use the people from their wii games or something like that? Their race suits do look cool though.I don't like that the doors don't open, and the top isn't hinged - you have to snap off the roof to put your minifig in and out.Mega pieces never snap together as cleanly as lego, you have to push harder, and sometimes an adult is needed to push them together tightly or the next step doesn't work. And mega instructions are never as good as lego instructions. This one was fairly straightforward, there were only a couple steps that weren't entirely clear. It took an 8 yr old about 45 minutes to assemble, but he savors and takes his time. I think older kids can get it done in 10 minutes.

boys loved this
My boys LOVED this. i have kids ages 5 to 7 who are lego building obsessed and they loved everything about this. they actually didn't even know it wasn't lego. It was easy for them to build without any of my help. The best part is the figure that it comes with moves his arms not just up and down like the lego brand but side to side which they thought was the coolest thing. The guy it comes with might be their favorite part. I have three boys and got them each a different set and everyone loved theirs. this set especially was a bit better because the other sets didn't come with the ATV. Overall a great price point and loads of fun.

Great set
My boys, ages 4 and 8, had such a blast with this set! They love LEGO and similar building sets and they're crazy about Hot Wheels. This set combines both. Winner! From a mom's perspective, there were some things I especially appreciated, as well:* I love that these are compatible with LEGO. Seriously, the last thing on earth we need is another set of something something keep separate because they won't work with sets they already have. I think it's great that, when these pieces inevitably get separated and tossed into a LEGO bin, they'll still be usable.* I like that there are two vehicles and two figures with this set. One for each kid. And then they can trade so they both get a turn with each. Much less drama this way. Love that. This set was a hit in my house. Highly recommend.

My son loves to build and play with these!
My son loves building mega construx blocks with me, and also loves hot wheels cars, so I couldn’t go wrong with this set! I was so happy to see that they had partnered together. My son is 8 and he loves building these, but does get frustrated trying to do it himself. He has no problem reading the directions and following them, but what he does struggle with is finding the correct block pictured. Also anyone that has ever built one of these knows that sometimes the blocks themselves can be hard to get together. So usually me and my son will sit down and build these together. This set was exactly what I have come to expect from mega construx. The directions were easy to follow and the photos helped tremendously. And I love that the finished product actually rolls on its wheels so my son can actually play with them instead of putting them on a shelf. Overall I’m quite happy with this set!

Another terrific Mega Construx set from Hot Wheels...
These Hot Wheels sets are compatible with Lego, so you are only limited only by your imagination. You can use Lego to build a raceway, garage, pit stop, etc., for your Hot Wheels car and figure. This set is called "Off-Duty and ATV Construction" and comes with 138 bricks. In comparison to Lego, here are some things to note:- The Hot Wheels figure is a little shorter and skinnier.- The Hot Wheels figure has no head under the helmet.- The Hot Wheels figure has better arm articulation.- The Lego figure will fit inside these Hot Wheels cars if they're bald. LOL! Meaning if you take off their hair piece, and any other head accessories. My kid is cranking these out every day. 5-Stars all the way!

2 player potential
This set builds an off-road pick up/SUV complete with cab lights and big tires! The great colors in for the pick up are lime green and blue. There are two drivers in the set, one with a Bengal Tiger jumpsuit and one with a blue and white Hot Wheels jumpsuit. My grandson likes the ATV in the set as it adds an extra accessory to plus with. Plus with 2 vehicles and 2 drivers this can be played with a grandma or a friend/sibling.The box has “punch outs” on the top that can hold the tires of the pick up for display. Price feels a bit high when compared to LEGO. Quality isn’t LEGO but they are being priced as if they were in the same quality bracket.
