Q: How wide is the head, the part that grips the canvas?

the description says 2 3/8 inch

Q: So one side of the "jaw" of the plier is curved. The other side has a rectangular projection sticking out of the "jaw". How is it properly used?

the edge with the square is braced on edge of frame when stretching canvas ect. they work very well do center or frame all around and work your way to the corners. Stapling thecanvas and getting it even. Hope this helps-check on utube how to stretch canvas. Best of luck bill z

Q: Where are these made?

I don't know where the pliers are made they don't say on them but probably china. I think i paid $10.00 or $15.00 for them and they are not best quality but i was very happy with them. I don't thank you will be disappointed with them. Good luck
