ANd I don't have to run it more than 4 hours a day in my studio apartment. So far I am happy with it.

High Quality, Modern Air Purifier
Bought over three different air purifiers recently. This one I bought for my self and it is amazing. Cleans all the air and auto picks up on any smell you might have, not just VAC's. I ordered a pizza and it detected it and increased the fan speeds! I did have to replace the first one I received as the low setting created a buzzing noise that was not at all silent. However, now with the replaced model it works as advertised.

Great air purifier
Updated 3/16/2017After using for a couple months, the motor has started making noise when it is running in its lowest rpm. It is used to be whisper quiet but now it is very audible. I may have got a defective motor that took time for the noise to develop. But I thought I should share it here.Original ReviewI owned a fantastic Sharp FP-N60CX that I bought in 2006. This year I bought the Sharp FPF60UW for a different room. The FPF60UW has the same excellent build quality. Motor is very quiet. The actual product looks smaller than it did in the picture. Air quality is comparable. The only thing I wish the new FPF60UW had is washable carbon filter. Actually the carbon filter in 10-year old FP-N60CX is not only washable but is also much more beefy (contains much more activated carbon). Sharp says the replaceable carbon filter in the new FPF60UW has up to 5 year life. Even though I may replace it in 2 or 3 years, that seems reasonable to me.The reason I am not giving it 5-star is the design of how the air going in and out of the unit. The 10-year old and most other Sharp air purifier take air in from the front and blows purified air vertically from the top. The new FPF60UW however takes in air from the back and blows out purified air from the top at an angle facing towards the wall. I am no expert in airflow but I am convinced the design in the new FPF60UW is less effective. I guess I will see.

Still running!
Purchased this item in 2017 and it has never been shut off since (except to clean the filters) and is still running perfectly. Unfortunately, it is no longer available...but I just wanted to state how happy we have been with this unit.

good job but expensive filters
The filter worked well only 1-2 months. Expensive to replace.Good job otherwise.

5 Year HEPA Filter Life
Whisper quiet in auto mode, it kicks up to a bit over a normal conversation (in db) whenever it detects odors. The HEPA filter has a 5 year lifespan, which is unheard of. I wish there was a bit more activated carbon to soak up cooking smells, bit for the money this beats a Dyson.

Not What I had Hoped For
The intake and exhaust are both on the same side of the machine, which I think is a design flaw. And, while it might clear the air in a small closet,it didn't in my Very small room. It has not put a dent in my pet fur problem.,

HEPA filter lasts up to five years
We have been using a smaller Sharp air purifier since 2004 (fp-n25c) and it is still going strong but now need one for a larger space, this one is a good fit.Positive points:- This purifier is energy star certified and uses 4 Watts on low speed which means they now use a Brushless DC ECM motor similar to what Panasonic uses in their expensive and quiet bathroom fans.- The HEPA filter lasts up to five years, has a carbon filter which is not washable and a pre-filter which is the cover for the back of the body.- Same great build quality of our older purifierNegative points:- Does not have a remote control whereas the old Sharp purifier does- The air intake is at the back which means you cannot put it flush against the wall whereas the old Sharp purifier pulls air from the front

which is a little-known type of asthma where day to day you're fine, but after a cold or if you get ...
Wife was diagnosed with coughing asthma, which is a little-known type of asthma where day to day you're fine, but after a cold or if you get a little run down, then a dry cough develops. There is no constriction of the airways or 'attack', it's just a persistent dry cough when you're worn out. We've noticed when she gets this cough, either at the tail-end of a cold or if she's been working too hard (not getting enough sleep), it used to take a while to go away and she'd rely heavily on her puffer. Now she uses her puffer less and she sleeps easier, there are less irritants in the air, meaning she rests better and recovers faster. Overall her bouts of coughing are much less. It may not be entirely because of this machine alone but this machine has helped without a doubt. As others have said, yes, it runs a little noisy sometimes when it kicks on, but we like the noise, it blocks out outdoor noises i.e. vehicles passing by. You can't hope for a machine to do all these things for you and run silent, it has moving parts, a blower, etc. It's not a huge issue as far as I am concerned. But it does not make any excessive noise that makes me worry about the built quality, it's just the noise of the machine working. No knocking, rattling, whistles. We have it on about 8 hours a night, it's been a month now, it's working perfectly. We really like the negative ion feature too, we can feel safe knowing mould spores, viruses or anything organic in the air is being killed. We chose this product because we had a wall-mounted one when we lived in Japan, and after returning to Canada we saw many other makers and models claiming to do the same things (negative ion, kills mould, etc. etc.) but when I read reviews every product had some issue or negative feedback. I forget the maker, some major Canadian maker, comparable units price-wise ($400 - $500) were receiving complaints of build quality issues etc. Everywhere I looked it seemed like a gamble. This is the only product I found that had consistently good reviews, with the most common negative review being just the noise, but other than that I didn't hear about anyone returning the product due to defects, poor quality, etc. So, given it was a name we trusted already and the positive reviews, we bought one. Slightly pricier than other makers and most big box electronic stores don't have it, you have to order online or go to a specialty store, but you get what you pay for. We're really happy with the purchase and will continue using it.

Great but makes constant ticking noise
This sharp purifier was purchased to replace an older model that still works well. Its quiet but except for a ticking noise that will not go away no matter what you do. I've tried dampening the surface it's on but it is clearly the fan or motor. I was going to buy a second unit but this has me worried and is quite annoying when you are trying to sleep. I'm not sure what to do other than request some sort of warranty claim.
