Actual rating: 4.5 stars rounded upHoly flaming shirtballs. Can we talk about the sexual tension in this book? Because it was a living breathing thing that had me by the neck and wow, I don't think I've ever read sexual tension built up so good before (seriously)! I want more.I've never heard of this author before but I really enjoyed her writing! It reeled me in very quickly and kept me hooked until the very end. The ending was a little anticlimactic but not overly drawn out and angsty and I always appreciate it when those are kept to a minimum. It's a character-driven story and there's barely a plot but the story is well-paced and I never felt bored! A lot of that definitely has to do with the exquisite chemistry that exists between the H/H and I enjoyed learning about them, watching them learn about each other, and I was also intrigued by many of the side characters. I'm still new to mafia romances so I'm not sure how formulaic or even unique this was but I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected! There were definitely moments that had me cringing, particularly relating to how women are treated, but I guess this 'archaic' mentality is something I should expect if I continue to read this sub-genre (and I think I definitely will)!Nicolas is probably one of the sexiest alpha heroes that I've come across. The dude can get it and everyone knows it and ain't nobody mad about it. 🥵 He's so good at being the cold unfeeling don but if you get him around Elena, it's a delight to watch the stone-faced mob boss' closely-held control crumble. He's not a cinnamon roll but he can be tender and vulnerable while still being commanding and dominant and oof, it is a sight! Elena was an interesting heroine but I feel like she could've been given a bit more agency. There are plenty of times where she almost breaks free from the mould that she so desperately wants to shed but never 100% reaches that point, which was a bit disappointing. There were definitely parts of myself I saw in her, which made it easy to connect to her character, but I just wanted a bit more power from her by the end. Elena struggles to shed the image of the perfectly docile and fragile young woman around most people but she has no reservations about standing up to Nicolas and acting more like herself—and in all honesty, it's what makes their fiery chemistry so sweet, which leads me back to the sexual tension again because it really did the thing.The chemistry between Nicolas and Elena was more than enough to set my Kindle aflame and the deeper they got into thoughts of each other, the more they fought their feelings trying to convince themselves it was "platonic", the more they stumbled towards each other only to pull back again, the more explosive their connection became. It was palpable and I found my own heart kicking into overdrive every time they'd find themselves in the same space. It's definitely a bit of a slow burn but the build-up is 1000% worth the wait because once they get together things get really steamy, really quickly and *fans self*. Seriously, chefs freaking kiss forever!

Probably more like 3.5* but I rounded up.Ok, so the things that brought the score down- It was a very slow start. The first quarter, could have been condensed down quite a bit to sharpen it up, and not be as slow. It didn't really get going til around 40% through, so I felt like skimming quite a few times up until that point. Though as I did quite like some of the slow burn I resisted the urge. I hate skimming, you never know what you'll miss! At times, in the beginning the writing felt a bit- I hate to say-amateurish because its not quite right. Naive maybe?That changed though, and the writing became subtle, nuanced. I loved how Nico was written, the edge he showed, the ambiguity in his interactions with Elena. Though she was annoying at times, I could see why she wouldn't want to show her true self, because of how wives are treated in her traditional way of life. I would also say the book was erotically charged, but not over done or explicit (not that I mind that at all!) I think it matched her coquettish behaviour/ character. I loved her sister too, their relationship and what a great personality she had! I didnt think it was too bloodthirsty and was expressed by some reviews, I expected way worse! All in all enjoyed the book, it was very well written, complex and even subtly at times, but could have been a little shorter. I'll probably read the next to see how long winded that is, and if it's worth it. I'd say this one was worth it- just!

This is brilliant, and I am out of word. This is an epic love story and Danielle has quickly topped up my list of favourite authors. I love this slow burn feelings she described the pull between Nico and Elena. It’s so hot and sexy! A must to read.

I have never been more thankful for kindle book recommendations in my life.I just found the next author for my binge reading spree, because this book was incredible! It was so well written, phenomenal characters, and the plot was amazing; so captivating and unique, definitely not what I was expecting when I read the blurb. I really couldn't put the book down (have a crick in my neck from sitting so long but it was totally worth it).The chemistry and sexual tension between Elena and Nico was just *fansself*. So hot and intense. I loved Nico's character like crazy, a new book boyfriend favourite I have to say, he was so unapologetic about his on display darkness, alpha, possessive and just pretty much perfect. Elena was a great heroine as well, stuck in a mafia world and known as the Sweet Abelli she feels trapped. She was gentle and sweet but also hid a firecracker underneath it all that came out more as the book progressed (with Nico's coaxing). I also have to say that they as characters were so well written, they were three dimensional and had depth to them, and were honestly just so enthralling to read about.It bears mentioning again how incredible the writing was. Honestly just phenomenal, the style, the progression of the story, the wit and banter/ humour, so so wonderful. I cannot wait to dive into the next made series and just honestly anything this author publishes.

It was an okay read. I think my disappointment comes from all the hype, it just didn't really live up sadly.There was very little romance. It was mostly just... lust, lust, lust, lust, lust. Until 80 - 90% of the book. I love lust! But it was just too much.The FMC was one of those ones who could be mad, but would forget because of lust. It was a bit annoying.I saw his obsession only as lust until near the end. There was a lack of much feeling and romance.But it wasn't an awful read. It was decent and I think it's worth reading if you're wanting to read the whole series. I've heard the next books are better.

I read a lot of fantasy romance, and don’t usually go for the ‘set in the real world’ romances. But I decided to checkout a mafia romance and MYGOD I’m happy this was the book I found first. Plot is amazing and the writing is too. There was just the right amount of spicy scenes in this novel for me as well (sometimes when there’s too many it takes away from the plot, but that was not the case for this book). Also, the characters, their motivations, and actions felt realistic and flowed. I loved both the ML and FL. In fact, I liked it so much I read it in 2 days. I couldn’t put it down! 10/10 recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Massive compliments to Danielle Lori on this fantastic novel.

Gente, minha lista de crush só aumenta... caraca.O livro é bom do começo ao fim. Os dois lutando para não se apaixonar e perdendo miseravelmente a batalha.Entendo perfeitamente Elena, nesse mundo onde ela foi criada não se pode jogar com o coração e nem com a confiança.E ver Nico caindo tão rápido... foi bonito demais.

Je viens à peine de commencer à lire le livre, je suis actuellement au chapitre 3 (page 15) et ça fait déjà 3 pages qui se retirent du livre.Assez déçue de la qualité, mais l'histoire est correcte. Assez banale et prévisible.

Normalmente lo que más me preocupa de pedir un libro por amazon y que este no me venga en buen estado, pero por suerte este me vino en perfectas condiciones. En lo que respecta a la historia diría que me ha gustado bastante y la recomendaría siempre y cuando la persona a leer el libro este interesad@ en un argumento con mafia.
