beware of freeze issues.
Purchased this new model to replace one that froze and ruptured when it got down to 22 degrees. It is 23 degrees here right now and I just had to unthaw the unit. Luckily I don't think it was damage. Do not trust the built-in anti freeze protection. I have had trouble with the control panel intermittently working and the unit is pretty flow rate sensitive.

I have had this for one month now and it has worked flawlessly. I am super impressed and with temps down in the teens and no freezing of the water heater and its mounted unprotected outside and just plugged in.

Undependable water heater
Bought in 2015, but delay in construction caused delay in installation of heater. Since July, 2017, it has been my only hot water source. In the first month, everything was fine, then comes the problems. It will not stay lit, if I turn it up high enough for the dishwasher, it goes off & gives an error message. While taking a shower, I had several temperature changes. It has been a BIG problem. I HATE having to heat water on the stove in order to take a bath before work, but that's what I'm faced with as of today. I would not recommend this model to anyone.

Works very well as a swimming pool heater for 1800 gallons. From 70 degrees, it will heat about 9 degrees in one hour and then 6 to 7 degrees the second hour.Allows us to use our small pool many more times throughout the season.

Having an intermittent E1 error that shuts down the unit.
I bought this unit in 2016 to install on my Alaska Cabin utilizing LP which I only use for 3 weeks out of the year. Didn’t get to install it until summer of 2017. Seems like it would fire up and work for a little while but then came the E1 errors (ignition system failure). Because the E1 error comes and goes, I don’t know what the issue is. It would work through one shower, then stop working and get an E1. Sometime it would come back on and work through an entire shower and other times the E1 error would prevent firing up again. If I tried the next day, it would work for a shower or two but then the E1 would creep back in.I’ve got the right regulator, 11’ WC, 160,000 BTU, changed the hose from 3/8” to 5/8”, changed the tank, all without getting it to work consistently. I’ve even tried to soak the tank in water to warm it during use.I’m starting to think that the other ratings are from the China factory pumping up their products as noting can have ratings so diverse. 36% 5 star and 46% 1 star? It’s now the summer of 2019: whatever the case, I cannot get this unit to work effectively when needed and will need to turn it into a shooting target, if it’s not resolved soon.

Run from this brand...DO NOT BUY!
I own a small resort in Michigan and recently decided to begin replacing all water heater tanks with Eccotemp on-demand units. One of the first 5 I purchased developed a pin hole (maybe 1/64 of an inch) in the first year. Since I planned to buy over 100 of these units, I figured tech support would at least treat me decent. Nope! They somehow determined that a roundish 1/64" pin hole was from "freezing", "an act of God", or "intentional damage"...no warranty. Not sure about you, but I have never heard of any of the 3 options resulting in a tiny pin hole. Buying all Takagi units going forward.

Don't waste your money
From the start would not produce consistent hot water. It might come on, then maybe it wouldn't. When it did, I may have 120 degree water...maybe 140, or then 65 degree, all within 5 minutes. I purchased 2 of these, spent $300 for installation, and now am going to send both back. Don't waste your money.
