Stand and Deliver

I watched this during my sophomore year in high school and I believe it may have been what inspired me to ultimately become a teacher. When students could barely grasp Algebra, he suggested teaching Calculus. Holding students to a higher standard is what public schools need.

My wife and I watched the film together. We both loved the story of these underprivileged students being counted out from day one. Nothing was expected of them but to remain at the bottom of society. One teacher believed that they were capable of more and expected more from them. It goes to show that expectations and attention have a lot to do with how well students perform.

No spoilers.Definitely a great movie to watch. Very inspirational especially since it’s based on a true story about a high school in Los Angeles Unified School District. If deciding to show in school it’s great but does have some cursing and some violence since it shows what is was like around the 1980s.

I bought this show only because I never had a chance to see the original movie when it came out. It is very inspirational seeing a devoted match teacher, played by Olmos, truly dedicated to his students, and the otherwise underserved students respond to the heroic efforts their teacher made to teach these students skills that enabled them to show would-be naysayers what they were capable of academically. Fabulous movie!

Inspirational, heartfelt, good message

I read the review of this movie and purchased it. Very nice movie. My kids love it. We watched the movie several times so far. And we were impressed by the teacher. We have an old saying in China, it took ten years effort to raise a tree but took 100 years effort to raise a human being. A great teacher is a gift from god.

I have always enjoyed it. It proves disadvantaged people can be just as good if given a chance. It also shows that in a white country, you have to work twice as hard to be half as good if you are the wrong colour.

Good movie

Invaluable insight into what it truly takes to be a real teacher. A 'must have' for anyone entering the profession, and for those who have been there for most of their lives... watch it, digest it, and learn. The only drawback with this version, since it is aimed at the domestic market, is that quite a few scenes from the original film are not shown. However, this does not detract from the message. Every teacher, and indeed every parent should have a copy.

It is one of those movies that is easy to watch and enjoy over and over again.There should be more like it.
