PM Models Sukhoi Su-21F Flagon

Giving this one three stars, as it has many issues, which also apply to PM's nearly identical SU-21G two-seater. For research, this aircraft is actually the SU-15F.A couple consistent problems with PM kits is the sparse cockpit interior, and the lack of locating pins and holes in the wings. The latter makes keep them together properly while drying takes care. The seat is a bit to far rearward on the floor, making it difficult to put the fuselage halves together - need to trim a bit from the rear edge of the cockpit opening (and this is doubled for the SU-21G kit). The seat back is hollow, which needs to be filled. It is visible under the canopy. The engine exhaust cone has slightly different curvature top and bottom, but you cannot see it - til you mount the vertical tail. I got this piece upside down, so had to trim the bottom edge of the vertical tail. The parts on the sprues are not numbered, so the numbers applied in the instruction sheet are useless. Luckily the intake splitter plates and elevators are identical left and right. The intakes take some care, as the top edge of the intake goes over the splitter, while the lower edge mounts on the edge of the splitter.If building gear extended, weight must be put in the nose. I built the gear doors closed, which need some filling.Online pics differ on cockpit interior color, some show a pale green and others show medium gray.This model is too basic for the experienced modeler, unless he wants to do a lot of detailing. The problems with this kit might make it frustrating for the less experienced modeler.I applaud PM bringing us models of these lesser known aircraft, but they really need to improved the engineering and design of their molds.It can be made into a decent looking aircraft, but needs more work than necessary.
