Bad product stay away
Works only for a few days then kaput! I replaced the cartridge with a new high density one and it just prints blank pages now. HP also has worst customer support. You just cannot find any solution, anypage or a person to resolve the issue.

Value for money only if you know to refill cartridges yourself
The biggest selling point of this printer is its price which is extremely low. I bought it for 2100 during Prime day sale. The printer comes with 2 free HP 805 cartridges - 1 tricolour & 1 black. The cartridges cost ₹1400 which means this printer costs only ₹700! The printer is very reliable and simple to operate. Its print quality good enough for home use. It can only take A4 size or smaller paper. Its photo printing quality is average and not fit for professional use.Coming to features, it just has a single power button and nothing else. All the controls have to be done by computer. The HP smart app from Windows store is unreliable and at times won't detect the new printer. One has to install drivers from website and this can cause problems to people who are not tech savvy. It doesn't have any scanner to cut costs. It also doesn't connect to wifi or internet which can be an advantage as it prevents HP from blocking or disabling refilled cartridges. The paper tray can hold only 25-30 A4 sheets. There is no automatic duplex or double sided printing.Coming to performance, the primter performs very well in its basic printing functions. The printer also prints at a speed of 8 pages per minute for basic B&W prints and 2-3 pages per minute for colour prints with many images which is a very decent speed for the price. I have not faced amy jamming of papers. The only problem one can face with this printer is with cartridges which is a consumable item. The biggest drawback of this printer is the cartridges. The cartridges cost 67% of the printer cost and are of very poor quality. My new cartridges started printing horizontal lines on the 5th day after purchase due to clogging of Cyan colour nozzles. The printer's cleaning function resolved it temporarily but at the cost of huge amount of ink. But the ink had dried and become thick due to prolonged storage and after a day the clogging again reappeared. I had done enough research and knew that the cartridges are too expensive to replace and had already purchased a refill kit along with the printer to refill the cartridges. But I didn't expect the cartridges to cause problems after just 25-30 prints and that too just 5 days after purchase. I had expected that I will have to refill only after 3-4 months or after 100 prints and was severely disappointed by the poor quality cartridges supplied. I sucked out all the original ink using suction tool and refilled the cartridges myself with 3rd party ink. The printer started working fine after the refill. As with all 3rd party inks, the colour of refilled cartridges is not fully accurate but is still decent enough for basic printing. The refill ink costs only ₹100 per 100ml bottle and one needs 4-5ml boack and 2-2.5ml of each colour per refill. The cost of refill comes to ₹15 including cost of test printing papers which is significantly cheaper than cartridges that cost 1400. A single cartridge can be refilled 10-20 times which means one can use the printer for 2-3 years with just 400 rupees of refill ink. If one doesn't know to refill the cartridges, then he will have to shell out more than ₹10000 just for buying cartridges. To make things worse, the cartridges will be dry when one needs to print most urgently. Conclusion is that this Deskjet 1212 printer is the best value for money only if one knows to refill the cartridges. If one doesn't know to refill cartridges then it is best to go with ink tank printers. They cost at least ₹8000 for a single function printer but don't need cartridges and can be refilled using ink bottles. Ink tank printers can run for 2-3 years without needing any additional ink other than what was supplied with the printers which means one can save on ₹10000+ for buying additional original cartridges. But if one knows to refill cartridges, then buying this deskjet 1212 printer with an ink refill kit for just ₹2500 and printing for 2-3 years is simply an unbeatable value for money.

A good printer for limited usage
A budget friendly basic printer for home use. This is ideal for people like me who have very less use (Averages a mere 2 or 3 prints a month) and wouldn't recommend for people with daily or heavy use as inkjet cartridges would cost more on the long run with replacements. The only thing is that these printers or the one i got wasn't just plug and play and all smooth. The initial catridge alignment in the settings had to be done due to streaks and smears. This took a bit of time to rectify. But after that the printing became clean and has been like that.

Satisfied with the product
Printing was not proper after a few pages. Since it was within warranty period, I contacted Amazon and then HP Customer care. Although it was too much of hassle for me, I have upgraded my own rating for the product, because the response from all concerned was good and the printer is now working satisfactorily.

ONLY GOOD FOR OCCASIONAL PRINTING
Please avoid buying the Deskjet series of printers if you are even going to print 50 pages in a month.Coming directly to the most important point while buying a printer: Company claims that the cost per page (black) is Rs. 8 but after testing it, I found out that the cartridge drains by 10% after printing just 4-5 pages. The cost of the cartridge is around Rs. 700, so the cost per page turns out to be around Rs. 15, which is quite high. This means we can only print 40-50 pages using a cartridge costing Rs. 700.For colour printing the cost is so high that you will better want to avoid doing colour prints at all.Company claims the cost to be Rs.10 but if you are doing a print which covers almost the full area of a A4 sheet then by doing just 1 page print the cartridge drains by 10%. This means you can hardly print 8-10 colour pages. If the printing is colour & black & white mixed, I believe the cost of doing colour prints will be somewhere around Rs. 20 per page. Also, if you are using Windows 10, you can still see the cartridge percentage by downloading HP Smart app from the windows store. The initial cost of this printer is very less but printing cost per page is very very high. It’s only a good buy if you will only be doing 40-50 pages print in 3 or 6 months. Then the cost will be justified, else better go for HP Ink tank printer. The cost of ink tank printer is high but the cost of printing as per company is only 10p for black & white. Even if it turns out to be 50p per page, still it’s very very less compared to the Deskjet series of printers from HP.I am happy that I didn’t buy the deskjet printer with copy & scan feature. Better to go for an Ink tank or Laserjet printers of HP.I hope now it’s easy for everyone reading this review to decide which printer to buy. I have only used this for 2 days so can’t comment on the reliability part.
