2012 collaboration between Electronic music pioneers Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure) and Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), the first time the two have worked together since Clarke left Depeche Mode in 1981. VCMG is the fruit of initially tentative discussion and subsequent enthused collaboration where Vince and Martin, both influential as pioneers in electronic music, get to exercise their lifelong love of the genre as the Techno inspired VCMG. The writing and recording of the album was done in a typically unique way with the pair working alone in their respective studios, communicating only via email, exchanging files until the album was ready.

Playful
I love the simplicity and "retro" playfulness of this material from Vince and Martin; you get the impression that this was simply fun for the boys, and perhaps can be better understood that way -- I read and understand some of the more disappointed reviews, but when I listened (the second time through) with the approach that this was less ground-breaking, and more willfully sly smiling, it starts to click into place, and I totally enjoy listening to these tracks. Due to the analog sound (though I'm not sure if all these sounds were created with analog synths, or if they were simply emulated), I do see little "references" to other inovators -- there's a bit of Giorgio Moroder sprinkled in, a flavor of early-80's Tangerine Dream (here and there), some mile-markers to very early 90's techno (early Autechre, maybe?). Again, it's nice to have these two "playing nice" with each other, after so many years, and in such a unique way (not actually working face-to-face, such as how Dead Can Dance used to work, etc.). Taken lightly, you'll find that this can be an enjoyable morning listen.

Brilliiant album. Hoping for a sequel
An extraordinary album. I would LOVE if they make a follow-up to it. Brilliant collaboration. Excellent quality, too!

Awesome electronic instrumental with rapid beat - good for exercising
I bought this because it was a big Depeche Mode fan many years ago and have been on an electronic instrumental kick lately - listening to a lot of Solvent and Lowfish. I listened to the previews of the songs on Amazon.com and just loved the sound of it so I bought it and can't stop listening. Not a lyric on the entire disk - not that I hate lyrics - but if you don't like instrumentals this probably isn't for you. I love listening to this while power walking - nice consistent, rapid beat.

Vince Clarke / Martin Gore
30 years ago Vince Clarke had a mental breakdown of sorts and decided to leave Depeche Mode. Martin Gore took over as the main songwriter, and the rest is history. Vince has managed to have a very successful career in his own right with Yazoo (Yaz) and Erausure. The thing both these guys have in common is their passion for electronic music and synthesizers. Looking over the last thirty plus years it should become very clear that there has not been anyone as prolific in the electronic genre as these two. To put it lightly, they are geniuses.Forget that this is techno, just listen with an open mind. If you already like techno, you are sure to be blown away. This album is pure mastery. There has never been a better techno album put out. The expectations, including my own, were quite high and by golly they delivered!

3 blips for Ssss
I am a little disappointed, it is below my expectations I thought that something coming from Vince and Martin would be awesome. In my opinion the beat is too monotonous or repetitive...sometimes boring, some of the electronic sounds reminds me The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman, nontheless it can not be compared to it. On the other hand, As a DM fan since the early 80's I could sense some DM "flavor" in FLUX.I am still figuring it out... I just liked only five tracks out of ten in the album. Lowly, Single Blip, Bendy bass, Flux and Spock. Lowly is dark, enigmatic and kind of spooky. The black wings, the shoes that the skinny girl is wearing in the video makes an amazing visual effect in the shape her body, It looks more like a bird...an ugly black bird...spooky...however, I like the video... Single Blip is my favorite although musically speaking it has a very simple and monotonous beat,a small repetive synth melody...good for dancing. I am not a musician but I have been listening DM for the last 30 years and I consider that I have some knowledge to differentiate good material from average.

Dance music for your head.
Vince Clarke and Martin Gore are familiar with each other, and their music on this disk shows it. Good rhythms and great music.

VCMG gives me NRG!
Just a fantastic dance album. Really curious which parts are Vince and which are Mart since they made this album over the internet by passing the files back and forth until complete. Always makes me feel good and gives me energy when I put it on. Would love to hear it in a club. Recommended!

Some Great Reward
Improbably, this collaboration between half of Depeche Mode's 1981 lineup - the effortless popstrel Vince Clarke whose every release has been, incessant, almost oppressively cheerful and the latter, naunced king of mild bondage miserabilism Martin Gore - take a brief break from their day jobs in respectively Erasure and Depeche Mode, to explore a silent first love. Both of them have, in their ways, explored the power of technology over the past three decades : Vince drawn always to the brighter, sunshine of analog synths, easily creating delicate structures of jauty, fast paced, and melodic pop where it always April 1984. Gore, on the other hand, gave the world such feelgood tunes as "Shake The Disease", "It's No Good", and "Enjoy The Silence", melding an immaculate production with a fetish for minor keys and chords, and vocals that try to make a disco out of an existential crisis. So... what you might expect with VCMG is an almost of literate, retro-futurist, morbid pop? No such luck.Immaculately produced, VCMG is a dense hour of electronic exploration : the material - 10 or so pieces of instrumental motifs - created by email and from thousands of miles apart, sounds like a determined single entity. The undulating tones and rhythms could be a particularly fond return to form from a mid-range electronic outfit that makes a small living. The pounding, slightly threatening "Lowly" begins the album : like all of this, made on old-fashioned, customised synthsets, tweaked and bent, with longstanding, elegant melody lines and immaculate rhythms, it sounds like the unholy, lovely union of two very different minds, with jaunty drums and melancholy strings, and a joy through repetition that only repeated exposure can bring."Spock" is utter Depeche Mode. The nearest compartor are the kind of luxuriously rich sounds they were making ten years ago. Over the course of an hour and ten tracks, there's no chance of everything being a standout - "Zaat" and "Flux" aren't the most rewarding listens of all time, but "Windup Robot", and the wonderfully titled "Skip This Track" are entertaining, rewarding diversions from the day jobs of being maudlin popstars.

ECSTATIC ABOUT ELECTRONICA
Electronica at it's very best. I am notorious for making covers of Depeche Mode tracks as Marky Spark but I will leave these amazing tracks of electronica alone as they are truly superb analogue electronica. OOOoops! did I say electronica again, Yes because it's not Techno. I don't know any other two people that could come up with such greatness. I have met Vince twice and never spoke to me once lol The album is a must buy and every track is different it does not blend and get tiresome it keeps you awake. My favourite tracks are Flux, Skip this track and Spok....infact all of them are great.

Ssssuperb
Vince Clarke and Martin Gore make a techno album together. Well, why wouldn't you?! Great tracks, "Spock" and "Windup Robot" are highlights for me. Double LP, and CD edition thrown in for good measure. Fab sounding pressing too. Delivery a couple of days late, but that's expected given the state of things. Great seller, fantastic buy.

Complex sound
I love Depeche Mode and found this album to be a major departure from them. However, there is a real texture to the sound and is worth persevering with as it gets better with more listens. Sophisticated, unusual and layered. Like a fine wine, not to be rushed but worth savouring.
