Not as good as 'Good Time' but in the same vein. Hectic, swear-ie, rush; good character portraits but the idiocy of keeping dangerous gangsters locked up against their will just to win a bet seems implausible. Also, do black people In NYC really use the N-word in every sentence?

Howard Ratner is a New York City jeweler always looking to make extra money to cover his ever increasing debts to a variety of dangerous lenders. When Howard comes into possession of something very rare and valuable he sees a way out of his current life but first he must perform a great balancing act as business, family and dangerous criminal threats all begin to encroach on his life and threaten his chances of escape.I'll start off by saving that generally as a rule, I can't stand Adam Sandler films, with the exception of perhaps Anger Management, I find his comedies really naff. However, this is not a comedy (far from it!) and it had been getting some rave reviews so it already had 2 things going for it and I am glad to say I agree with the rave reviews. It's difficult to describe the film in terms of enjoyment because I would struggle to call it an enjoyable experience. The best way to describe the film was like having a two hour long anxiety attack. You are constantly put on edge throughout the film as Howard races against time, covering one debt against another to get to the place he needs to be to escape this life. Sandler's performance was spot on, it is certainly a career best that proves he is better than a lot of these naff comedies he is in. It's a film you won't forget in a while and I wouldn't recommend watching it before bedtime if you plan on getting any sleep because it will leave your heart racing afterwards.

This was an excruciating film with an excess of swearing and a confused plot at best. The acting was so over the topand a plot with no semblance of progression.How has this been lauded as a classic...over hyped gruel..
