Nice Home Owner/Hobbist Meter
I bought this on the recommendation of Dave Jones from EEVblog, not disappointed. Has lots of functions, not too large, leads seem adequate. Has a lot nicer build quality and is more accurate than super cheap meters. Good all around meter with functions for house hold electrical systems, automotive, and electronics.Keep in mind there are better options for more specialized uses such as an electrician, industrial support, electrical engineer, etc. But as a all rounder that doesn't break the bank I think this is hard to beat.

Great Meter
Very happy with this meter. OK: I am not a digital multimeter expert, (this is my first meter), but after much research, this seemed like the best value in this price range. Seems quite accurate to to me. Testing voltage, continuity, resistance, etc. The autoranging feature is nice - glad I opted for that. You can switch to manual ranging, although I found this a bit confusing. You'll see the goodness of autoranging once you use it. The temp probe was missing when received. However, a quick message to Extech solved that. They sent me one promptly. I have to say, FLIR/Extech customer service is excellent! Also, I read a complaint somewhere about the stand being too flimsy - it's is built into the orange cover. But I think it's fine - it's a stand for the meter. It works. I mean if you were to pull on the leads while using, then yes, I suppose you could knock the meter over, but I have not had this problem. The leads seems good. I also read where getting replacement higher quality leads can be helpful. But the stock leads are great so far. Highly recommend!

Solid meter with minor annoyances
I'd highly recommend listening to David Jones over at the EEV BLOG as he reviews this meter along with several in the same category. The casing and build are pretty solid. It has a nice heft to it and the rubber molding feels protective. It's not quite as nice a molding as I think they could have done as the clip on the back is just squeezed into some molded holes and it feels really flimsy. So far, the stand has worked without problem, though a bit wobbly.I like the display. The digits are large with good contrast, though the decimal point feels a bit hidden so close to the dark green borders. The units are easy enough to read, though I always wish a little more thought was put into the size of the units to make them more readable at a distance. Not a huge issue. It's protected with a clear piece of plastic, which is nice. Pushing on the buttons on the front panel can make the LCD "bleed" a bit - nothing huge. I actually thought I had a broken screen for the first five minutes because I had taken it out of the cold shipping box and the lcd blur was stuck in place for some time looking like a crack! Once it warmed up the display was nice and clear. The meter update rate is slightly slow - especially compared to nicer meters. With good contact to the circuit, the values level out pretty quickly, but it can feel adrift for a few seconds. The auto-range works well and quickly enough.Be aware, this doesn't come with the temperature probe, but EXTECH will send you one in the mail. I haven't had any reason to use it for much, but it is pretty quick and seemed accurate for room temperature and a few boiling water measurements I made out of boredom. Celcius and Fahrenheit are pretty easy to distinguish on the display. For several reasons, I always wish there was a separate mA/uA and A posts from the V/Ohms plugs, but the posts are nicely done and the leads nestle into them very nicely. The leads themselves are pretty good actually - nice and sharp with rated stamped cables and nice length. The continuity checker is non-latching and makes a horrid scratchy noise most of the time, but it works and is reasonably sensitive. It wouldn't be my first pick for checking solder joints, but it would get the job done. The voltage detector is well done for what it is. It's nice not to have to turn the unit on to use it, just hold the yellow button and go near an outlet and you'll get a tone and red light at the top of the unit.Overall, I like it - it's a good moderate value meter.

Great meter!
I am completely satisfied with this meter. The auto ranging works great an makes getting a reading much quicker since you don't have to fiddle with the dial to get the correct range for whatever you're measuring. The accuracy is quite good and the meter feels very solid. Batteries and fuses are easy to get to and overall it seems like someone actually put some thought into the design of this meter. The range on the non contact voltage detector is fairly short but the little voltage detector sticks are very cheap and you should have one if you're working around mains voltages. From what little I've played with the temp probe it doesn't seem to be terribly accurate but I didn't buy the meter for that.I bought this meter for electronics work and it excels at that without breaking the bank. If you need more accuracy then this provides then you should be using a bench multimeter and not a handheld multimeter.

Excellent little multimeter for the house and hobby digital electronics ...
Excellent little multimeter for the house and hobby digital electronics work. This multimeter is a serious step up from the cheap auto parts meters but much cheaper then a comparable Fluke. I personally prefer Fluke but couldn't justify spending two or three times as much money for what I needed it for. Speaking of, I have used it for home wiring projects, electronics repair, testing batteries, temperature readings, and resistance/capacitance testing. All readings were within expected ranges however I don't have more precise reference equipment required to check ranges/tolerances. It's certainly accurate enough for my purposes.Pros:- Price- Stock leads are quite nice and ~4' long plus a temperature probe was included- Auto ranging works very well- A lot of useful functions (described nicely in the product description) including auto off- Kick stand is very convenient for bench top testingCons:- None really, it does exactly what I expected it to. Features like True RMS reading would be nice however it's hard to expect features like that for the price of this multimeter.I would strongly suggest getting Extech TL809 Lead Kit just for the alligator clips. When you are on the top of a ladder being able to clip one or both wires may save your life!
