Unpredictable with an Intriguing Plot
All of the actors did a wonderful job in this very smart series. Flashing back and forth on the timeline is done well, and is not confusing. Top notch actors and screenwriting.

Excellent spy thriller.
Makes you think who could be a spy working for the Russian Federation now in the mist of the 2022 Ukrainian invasion directed by Putin and horrific Russian leaders, who desire world domination and utter disregard for human life.

Saved by the actors
A slow, intriguing WWII movie about what the English seem to do best in that era - spy on their country for Germany, and later, for Russia. A very British film with a superb cast and some excellent performances.

Story Disconnected and Boring...Don't Waste Your Money!
The Restless...Someone must have been very restless to write this saga. Gee, I don't think you could call this a story, was very disconnected and boring. The acting-mediocre. I realize Michele Dockery (from Downton Abbey) did not have a great role, but was expecting more from her. She seemed expressionless...very poorly done. Charlotte Rampling was the best of the lot, but surely not up to other roles in movies that I've seen. Lucas Romer recruited Eva Delectorskaya for a British Spy Agent in what appears to be a crash course.Charlotte Rampling, AKA Eva Delectorskaya, who has blue eyes, was played by Haley Atwell who has brown eyes. I think surely casting director could do better than this! Also, young Lucas Romer, played by Rufus Sewell and played by Michael Gambon in his older years really caught me by surprise. I sat there wondering who was Michael Gambon supposed to be. Finally realized it was an older Lucas Romer. They could have aged Rufus Sewell and it would have been better than Michael Gambon, who bore absolutely no resemblance to Lucas Romer, a huge blunder! The ending was flat, left you wondering what would be next.I purchased this because of many good reviews. I watched it because I paid money for it and will not be watching again. Don't waste your money on this one!!

Great Show!
I read the book, and knew that I would want to see the movie. Was not disappointed at all! I thought the acting was uniformly excellent, especially Hayley Atwell. The intriguing plot was well-presented, with the different timeframes quite accurate historically, at least as far as I was able to judge. Had previously seen the movie on tv, and wanted the dvd so that I could watch it again. A good price, too.

I am Restless for the Follow-Through of this Great Show!
Wow! This is a fantastic show that I highly recommend! I hope that they will do a follow-up. We go into the background of how the first British Intelligence service agents were trained during WWII. Our heroine has many adventures as an agent and then ends up running for her life. The story takes us between past and the 1960's as the daughter of our protagonist becomes involved (Downton Abbey viewers will be pleased!) I really enjoy watching this DVD frequently; when I don't know what to watch, I slip it into the player and enjoy it, even though I have watched it several times. I must admit, this may be more interesting to female viewers than males. But they may be engaged as well! Good job, again, BBC!

Wonderful WWII Spy thriller
I loved this movie. Very twisty intricate story. One thing that made this movie stand out was that the three prominent leads were women--and they were great. Charlotte Rampling and Michelle Dockery were wonderful as usual and Hayley Atwell was amazing. The movie alternates between the present and the past--my favorite way to tell a story. I love espionage stories--especially during WWII and this one satisfies. The movie kept me on the edge of my chair--trying to put the pieces together and suspecting everyone in turn for "not being who they were supposed to be". Very nicely done.

fascinating!
quality actors that are familiar to those who enjoy British programs. The story was only a bit difficult in the start to keep up since it 'flip-flops' from different time periods.........but that being said, once you understand the context and necessity of this it then becomes not only easy to follow - but absorbing! ending was appropriate and made sense, too

What! No subtitles for the hard of hearing......?
Loved the book and most of Boyd's other stories - especially Any Human Heart - a masterpiece. I loved this film but even with my hearing aids on full I could not hear the words clearly and they were distorted which spoiled it. Why was this not mastered with subtitles like all DVD's are - so sad for me...... Shame on you company not thinking of us oldies.....

Award winning mini series set in the 40s & 70s
A thoroughly gripping espionage spy thriller, with a well written cloak & dagger yarn weaving in and out of the shadows of the past.Hailey Atwell at her best. Similar in visual style to Agent Carter but with a less confident and more nervous character as our hero, plus a bunch of twists and turn ending in red herrings to keep you guessing.A rather odd but smooth ending that seemed to peter out, like fading music, rather than finishing on an uplifting and fulfilling end note. However, this is a magnificent production set in the 40s & 70s. With a good list of excellent actors, a very well written adaption of William Boyd's novel, great locations, costumes, vehicles, sets and photography giving an authentic look to the entire two part mini series. Not surprisingly, the film won awards in 2013/14.It's up there with best of other stories set in WWII.

Quite simply Brilliant!
I am a fan of William Boyd and loved the TV adaptation of Any Human Heart, so was excited when I saw Restless had been adapted for TV too and like Any Human Heart, it didn't disappoint. Hayley Atwell is a really good actress and she's very convincing in this, as is Rufus Sewell - he always plays 'dastardly' so well. For anyone interested in this period in history and anyone who loves a good WWII drama - it's a must see! Brilliant storyline, brilliant characters and brilliant actors - so all in all - BRILLIANT!

I enjoyed the acting
I enjoyed the acting. It came without subtitles which was a shame because I'm a bit hard of hearing. Fortunately I'm familiar with the book (love William Boyd), otherwise I'm not sure if I could have followed it.
