Understandable
I liked the clarity; It would take a fantastic memory to learn it all, but it is all there.

Good flow, logical material progression, inspirational, some mistakes, seems rushed toward end.
The flow is good. The authors present a very logical progression from basics to high level functions.Illustrations are very fantastic, one of the best I've encountered in a textbook. They are well thought out and informative. Most of the time, the picture says it all and is very intuitive, with the figure description just confirming what you saw with a tad of extra detail.Experimental highlights are real interesting and inspiring. They impart a sense of nostalgia, even if the events predate your life. In whole, these sidelights reveal how some of the general knowledge was uncovered and are often awe inspiring to see how creative and insightful scientists were, especially without the modern tools of today. They also reveal that sometimes discoveries are made just accidentally, but wonderfully lucky in finding out something that no one even imagined. They give you a sense of appreciation for basic research for the sake of knowledge. Some are "tough reads" though and require knowledge of…for example, material in the final online chapter…or some external research into the topics. There are periodic mistakes in the beginning. However, it does gets better towards the end of the text. The material in the final "download" chapter is very brief and doesn't explain a whole lot of stuff. One of the noticeable features of this chapter is that some of the figures are quite ambiguous and, unlike previously mentioned, require you to delve deeply into the descriptions and figure out what they are trying to convey. Perhaps a little help from the internet wouldn’t hurt either. Overall, it feels like this chapter was a rush job that they had to finish during a publication deadline. And since they didn't make the deadline, they had to make it online. And they still ran out of time!

The Textbook is Incomplete
The last chapter of this textbook, which happens to be one of the chapters I bought this for, is not included. The textbook refers you to a website to view the last chapter, but the website does not appear to exist anymore. I feel like I completely wasted my money getting a hard copy, only to be told I had to go online to read it.Update: I was finally able to open the link in the textbook so that I could download the last chapter. But the last chapter is 112 pages, which I will have to print using my own paper and ink. If I had wanted to do that, I would have printed the electronic textbook my professor provided us, rather than wasting my money purchasing what I thought was a hard copy version.

Wish kindle
The book itself and the information inside are amazing. However I wish there was a kindle version so I could read it on my tablet and it didn’t weigh a million pounds in my hands as I read. Or at minimum they printed a hardback so I wouldn’t have to worry about damaging it as much. Amazing book but monstrously huge book

Missing the modern essentials!
Textbook doesn’t describe common techniques like PCR, inverse PCR, Gibson cloning etc. They are included in the index and info would be in Chapter 19 but the boom just skips this chapter and says to read it online. Pathetic.
