Good Product
This cable tester is pretty solid. I was able to narrow down a couple network issues to bad patch cables that were installed about 8 yrs ago. This unit plugs into your computer by USB and if you have their software, you are able upgrade firmware and print out test results. Comes with several accessories to make your job easier.

it is one of the more annoying ones. may main use is to test network ...
Using this tester for sometime, it is one of the more annoying ones. may main use is to test network cables. unlike most testers it shows fail when the cable is perfectly fine, usually on pair 1&2 on long cables over 100ft. it includes one tester and one remote to test the cable, the others are just the cable number. The tester just display failed, without indicating which side of the cable failed, or not patched all the way in. The 8 test remotes do not fit in the patch panel or in 4 or 6 wall plates in connectors that are side by side. They are too large and the connector is part of the tester..the plastic labels on the cable tangs that allow to check cable numbers only (those yellow ones) falls off.The device has one nice feature that the on off button will not be pushed on by itself, saving the battery.I would not buy this unit again, to many push buttons to do the tests. to test a cable and find the cable ID, you must test the cable first, exit and click on the ID button !!! - for that price there are better testersit is too costly for whatever you get something else with multiple working remotes with tags, so you can test multiple cables one after the other, find out where the open, cross, and miss. Open cable shown 7 wires short and one wire short - in fact there was no adapter at the end of that cable (as you can not fit 2 test adapters next to each other in the patch panel.

I love this meter
So far, I love this meter. I have tried several of its functions and it seems to work well. I expected it to be a little cheesy because of its sort-of garish appearance, but it's not cheesy at all. And the true TDR measurement works well. I tested it on some known cables and it was very accurate. I had looked at something less expensive from another maker but found that the cheeper one didn't do as much and used capacitance to measure cable length. I also looked at a more expensive one from Fluke and found it didn't do as much as this one. So I was delighted that this one has so many functions and uses true TDR to measure cable length. I also like the reporting capability as well. The "SR" smart remote version comes with a lot of accessories including 8 smart remotes for RJ45 (ID the port and test the cable) as well as 10 "dumb" remotes for RJ45 and 10 for coax that ID the cable but don't allow testing the cable, plus a lot of other stuff. My only criticism is that the carrying case for all that stuff is a little crowded and could be just a wee bit bigger with more pockets in it. But I am very happy with my purchase.

Structured wiring and cable techs this a good tool.
This device is does everything it is designed to do the navigation is pretty simple and the display is easily readable. I have used this device for trouble shooting camera systems, networks, structured wiring issues, and more. The toner isn't as strong as a stand alone device, this could be because I am using it with a Tempo 200xp probe. My only complaint is the bag design and zipper placement. The zipper died on my second day of use.

Disappointed
I purchased this item based solely on the reviews and truly had high hopes that it would be a good tool. I had never until receiving this unit had the opportunity to see this in person before my purchase. Based on my experience in the first hour of ownership, this is the first and the last Triplett product I will be purchasing. For the price of the unit I would have expected a better built tester. The battery cover on the unit that I received would not completely close, as it appears one of the battery contacts was not seated which caused the cover to noticeably bulge in the middle. The tester that snaps into the bottom of the unit would not stay in properly and kept wanting to fall backward and come undone. The "Smart" testers that were included with the package I received looked used?? The number 5 tester was already punched through the sticker to access the screw beneath at some point. The separate plastic package the Smart testers came in appears to have been opened and melted back together at some point. Out of 8 smart testers, 4 came back as a fail or the labels were wrong on the cable identification. The 10 locators that came with the tester all tested fine. Only the smart testers were the problem.
