Vibhinnata: Paschatay Sarvbhomikta Ko Bhartiya Chunauti

This is a scholarly work whose time was long awaited by an entire civilization... while there is a western lens, a mid eastern lens, and an oriental lens for viewing the world -- there was a complete void due to absence of a lens based on the world's oldest civilization i.e. dharmic or Indic. Rajiv Malhotra's tireless activism and research into western and non-Indic systems, while making a distinct comparison with dharmic heritage - has resulted in this book which arguably, is a turning point in the dialogue of civilizations. Personally I am proud to see this warrior spirit manifest itself in Hindu thought after what seems to be centuries of subjugation, slavery, and humiliation of the most accomplished society at the hands of conquerors. It is very much in the interests of Hindus world wide to back such a poorva paksha effort and the invaluable contribution by translators like Devendra Singh who have brought this message to India's masses.

Must read
Must Read to everyone very interesting and knowledgeable book.....this book clearly explains about the all things which one can think...India is more than a nation state. It is also a unique civilization with philosophies and cosmologies that are markedly distinct from the dominant culture of our times - the West. IndiaтАЩs spiritual traditions spring from dharma which has no exact equivalent in Western frameworks. Unfortunately, in the rush to celebrate the growing popularity of India on the world stage, its civilizational matrix is being co-opted into Western universalism, thereby diluting its distinctiveness and potential. In Being Different: An Indian Challenge to Western Universalism, thinker and philosopher Rajiv Malhotra addresses the challenge of a direct and honest engagement on differences, by reversing the gaze, repositioning India from being the observed to the observer and looking at the West from the dharmic point of view. In doing so, he challenges many hitherto unexamined beliefs that both sides hold about themselves and each other. He highlights that while unique historical revelations are the basis for Western religions, dharma emphasizes self-realization in the body here and now. He also points out the integral unity that underpins dharmaтАЩs metaphysics and contrasts this with Western thought and history as a synthetic unity. Erudite and engaging, Being Different critiques fashionable reductive translations and analyses the WestтАЩs anxiety over difference and fixation for order which contrast the creative role of chaos in dharma. It concludes with a rebuttal of Western claims of universalism, while recommending a multi-cultural worldview.

mutual respect can only save all the religions and not tolerance
This is landmark book of this decade and is a must read for all Indians and Hindus in particular. We are so used to hear adnausum about the sameness in all religions particularly propagated by Hindu religious leaders which as per this book is causing more damage than any other thing. We should understand the basic tenets of other religions and aslo strive to bring forward how they differ from dharmic religions. This way the whole world will be more appreciating our dharma and that is the best of advocating it. We should never undermine our religion just for some small time tolerating attention from others. We should dare to say that we are different and ask demand for Mutual Respect.
