Pilgrimage

Pilgramage is one of their best! the prelude to Argus.
I know this album gets mixed reviews but I think this is wishbone ash at their best. Pilgrimage is a solid follow up from there first album and prelude to there masterpiece Argus. For me the first three albums are the peak. It all changed after Argus. There were some good times ahead but it was music from the first three albums that keeps me coming back to them. Classic dual guitar rock that is raw and full of energy.. Nice package with lots of classic photos. Great music and a bargain price makes this a great deal.

Heavy Metal Dreaming
If your looking for link between heavy metal and progressive rock of the nineteen seventies, look no further. Along with bands like Bloodrock, Uriah Heep and oh let's say Jethro Tull, you have great blend of heavy riffs combined with existential lyrics guaranteed to blow you mind. If your fan of Judas Priest "Pilgrimage" and "Argus" are essential to your collection. Wishbone Ash was a tremendous influence on Rob and the boys. Though the two bands music is different you can hear elements of what would make up Priest's signature sound. No serious student of hard rock homework is complete without studying Wishbone Ash.

Good Stuff!!
This is a great album; highlights for me include Alone at #1 and Vas Dis a close second. It's all good though--Valediction is very good, extremely unique too. But, despite what other reviewers have said, I think ALL of Wishbone Ash's music still holds up today--they're just great. Get this album, but don't hesitate to get ANY of their albums, really. Argus is great, so are Locked In, New England, No Smoke Without Fire, There's The Rub, etc. etc. there's no end to the great music with these guys

Nothing like I expected
Not was I was expecting from this group. Wishbone Four is so much better.

Enjoyable
I just recently discovered the music of Wishbone Ash by recently purchasing Argus & their first CD. This fits in with the other two and I'll keep their other CD's on my radar.

Simply Brilliant
Waxing poetic about this album has already happened in other reviews.Let me just say this: If you like good guitar music, intelligent lyrics (most of the time) and a more progressive musical expression, and can deal with the slightly dated sound, this is great music you should at least give a listen to, more than once or twice, to allow it to settle in so you can truly determine if it is your cup of tea.

give thanks for the pilgrim
essentially, I like most of this album, but it's a little spotty. Somehow I get the impression they weren't quite ready to do this album when it was recorded. the first tune Vas Dis doesn't have any lyrics and they thought they'd make up for it with scat over the main melody in spots. bad idea. the main melody is a bit too busy for scat and it didn't work. there are some decent jams, so the song is not a total waste....but without lyrics, the song would've worked better as a total instrumental. The Pilgrim is a great tune and an album highlight. Again, no lyrics....but just a quick "da da da" vocals that is just a short break in what is otherwise a brilliant 8-minute prog rock instrumental. Next, the popular Jail Bait gives us the bluesy side of WA and their closest brush with having a radio hit on this album....good song with good jams and got a little radio play. Then comes two short but great instrumentals, Alone and Lullaby, which were probably added to quickly complete the album, but they are both wonderful additions to this fine album and I'm glad those tunes are here. Valediction is the next tune with cheesy love song lyrics that needed work on vocal harmonies. They knew what the vocal harmonies SHOULD be, but needed work to pull them together......this song still had a saving grace in the good guitar jams. Then the last tune claims to be 10 minutes long, but it's a live performance with a minute of audience cheering, so the song is only 9 minutes. It's not the album highlight I expected. There are some decent jams, but the vocals are weak and there are times where the song just drags and lays there and goes nowhere.......it's okay, but not the highlight I expected.....and once again I am left to believe it was just added to complete an album they weren't ready to finish.So.......there are great spots and tunes that make this album definitely worth getting.....but there are moments where you can tell they should've taken their time and finished properly! I'm still glad I have this album for the many great moments! it works really well in playlists!!
