The Volt Age
EDIT: The product I bought doesn't seem to be one of the ones on offer currently and I don't know why, so in the interest of clarity: i specifically bought "EFISH Universal Multifunctional Portable DC Power Transformer" which has a dial on the bottom back beneath the prongs for setting the voltage. None of the imaged products currently show this, only ones fixed at 5V or 12V etc. I also paid £13.99 April 2020 which is perhaps a bit high, but certainly not the £19.99 I see now.Stop me if this sounds familiar: A family member broke the wire for their jukebox. This jukebox runs on an AC to 9V DC 1A power and the cable is one of those pathetically thin affairs that somehow manages to twist to the point of exposing bare copper (please don't risk your life over a wire). Imagine your surprise when you find the jukebox isn't working and need a new AC->DC adapter. This model really stood out because of how thick and well terminated the cables were, so I read on.A massive sign of being reputable, the info on this page is well documented to help you determine if it's what you need. (I don't think there were any leaflets that came with it, but IMO there doesn't need to be as it's all very clear before you buy it.) Namely, the polarity is clearly indicated: inner spike is +ve, outer cylinder -ve. Something working and something working safely are not always the same thing. It's night and day to the plug it replaced. I like that there's a satisfying 'ca-click' when you turn the dial on the plug to the voltage you want. In my case, I want 9V DC, and the manufacturer indicates it can safely supply up to 2A of current, which puts my 1A requirement squarely in that. It's not a lot of power but I saw other products who reported 1A or 0.85A etc (and they are legally obligated to be honest). Overload the cable and it will heat up. It's not worth the risk, so be extra clear on what you need and then check again you're not getting paper-thin knockoffs. (Now to be fair, I haven't cut the product open to check this myself.)Until I have something sacrificial to test, I don't feel comfortable using the accompanying USB charger port alongside the cable just incase that's not really outputting 5V (the standard for USB) when I've got the dial set at 9V for the cable. It probably does exactly what it's supposed to but I can't risk anything hardware-wise and I don't have the equipment to safely measure it to check atm. (Nor can I check the accuracy of the voltage it's claiming, so I would find a better-equipped commenter for this info!)The attachments were good, but I actually had to buy a bigger set to go with it for my use case (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07F7776T6) and here's why:Although you can't tell from the picture, the end of the wire for this plug is actually (very safely) protected by a sort of upturned upbrella pvc ending (perhaps an updated form), which while making it fit snugly and safely into any of the little terminal adapters, actually restricts it from plugging in directly on 5.5x2.1 ("tuning fork") style holes by about half a cm. I don't feel this is a particular design flaw as it's made to fit into an adapter so a 5.5x2.1 attached is really just extending the same terminus. Funnily enough, this extra set's adapter is actually slightly too LONG by a few mms and have had to make sure none of the (albeit -ve) metal is exposed and it is firmly inserted. In short, it's a handy little gadget to have around and I will probably buy another in the not-too-distant future to have as a backup, since I can see it fitting a lot of phones and usb devices (and many other things besides with the other set of extensions that fit nicely in it). There's even an attachment that let's you directly screw your live and neutral to, so it could be absolutely perfect for hobbyist electronic applications, offering low power 5 or 12V DC from mains.

Will not power inflateables
This is my first purchase of this transformer. I have used others which, sadly are no longer available.I have recently returned from the USA with 3 Halloween inflateables. The transformers suppied were 120v dropping to 12v and requiring 1.5amps (except for one which required 1amp).The one requiring 1amp works perfectly. However the 2 that required 1.5amps will not operate. You can here the fan attempting to start but sadly the required output is not there. In theory they should work but they don't. I've checked with my electrical meter and they are no drawing over the maximum power required. I've had to purchase a 240v to 120v, 2000w supply to run the inflateables. They are certainly not drawing anywhere near the maximum power so not sure why they will not work.
