Pepperidge Farm Chessmen Cookies, 7.25-ounce (pack of 6)

I have simple taste when it comes to cookies. Vanilla and buttery are my go to flavors. These Chessmen cookies are over the top buttery.

Here is a cute serving idea. Take some ice cream that you have let soften a little bit so you can shape it. Put a scoop of ice cream on a dessert plate. Take four Chessmen cookies, and press them into the ice cream to form a box. Add more ice cream on top, and some ice cream syrup and a cherry. It will look like a little kid's block as an ice cream sundae. We did this for a baby shower, and the guests raved about how cute it was. Also. you could add a clown cupcake pick and a fifth cookie as an open lid to make it into a Jack-in-the-box themed sundae for a birthday party.

I first tried these over the holidays, and fell in love with their buttery flavor. They're reminiscent of shortbread, but not as heavy.I've found these locally, but they're not stocked that often, and are priced higher. I was able to get 12 packages here on Amazon for less than my supermarket, and I haven't had any issues with broken or crushed cookies. I've gone through about 5 packages so far, and I think I found 3 broken cookies in the whole lot.They work well with tea, coffee, even spread with Nutella. Just a couple in the afternoon can satisfy my sweet cravings -- just about perfect!I would definitely purchase again, but it's going to take ma awhile to get through this bunch.

These are so buttery and tasty! A real treat!

The only issue was that many of the cookies were broken. But these cookies were still delicious, buttery and crunchy and that they were broken was not a problem for us at all. Love them!

Most Pepperidge Farm cookies these days are made with shortening instead of butter, the big exception are these delicious Chessmen cookies.They don't say butter on the front, but they absolutely are BUTTER cookies. Butter is the second ingredient after flour.The packing was four packages lined up on a oversized heavy piece of cardboard, and then the whole thing wrapped in heavy plastic. This was in a box with other items all cushioned with air pillows.Our four pack arrived in perfect shape, no broken cookies with a good expiration date (3 months away).Only downside is the cornstarch they use in the recipe which gives them a slight powdery after mouth feel.

Great flavor, they hold their crunch and taste when used in banana pudding. Our favorite, yet hard to get during the holiday season.

I like butter cookies so tried Walker, Lorna Doone and Chessman. These had a nice buttery flavor, crispy and each cookie had a different chess piece on it. Walker were delicious, hard to eat and way expensive. Lorna doone were blah, no flavor, used to be thick squares. Now thin, I gave to squirrels and they literally took them, then dropped them on the ground, not eating them.
