MONITOR4EC Energy Compensated Analog-Based Ionizing Radiation Detector

Wish this came with instructions but maybe that's a whole day class that should be taken to know how to read this. I didn't know that when I bought it and haven't been able to find a youtube video to tutor me or explain it. If anyone out there would do that it would be great for all us novices that would like to know at least the basics!

I bought this unit for the benefit of everyone in our family, so far we have found a few high alpha emitters in some of the jewelry in the house. Say hello, gold sale! And have been measuring the exterior radiation levels around Carlsbad Ca. Recent averages in my neighborhood have been around 22-54 CPM which is just slightly elevated since we are at sea level...... so no reason to run for the hills(yet) guys...I have used this to detect some trace radiation in the local tap as well, again nothing to be scared of... at this time. In this day and age 5 senses aren't enough to protect you from the clear danger that radiation and other toxic elements can potentially pose. So that makes these consumer survey meters very useful to have, especially since the amount of radiation that it takes to cause reproductive harm is so low... So far I like that it is an EC model so I can use the thing to pinpoint the general area in which radiation is coming from much easier this way. If I were to say have a radioactive watermelon I could quickly figure out right where the offending item is.Be safe out there,HZ

I work at a calibration facility, we bought this for a customer to replace one that was broken. When i got it, it did not respond to radiation due to a bad gm tube. Since this is not returnable, i now have to buy a replacement gm tube for it.

I don't have a known source of radiationto compare the product, but I guess it works.I pointed it at a Japanese gadget recently purchased, and noticed a slight increase in radiationcount. In view of recent known severe radiation leak in Fukushima, Japan, I am not entirely surprised about this finding.

This device is selected when I searched for "Geiger Counter"but this is NOT a geiger counter nor is it directly related to one. Itmay measure radioactivity, but not using a geiger tube. It is kind ofmisleading that it appears by this search.
