Review on the movie Anand.
Very good family drama on the struggles when one's life on the line as anyone can give out and give in to live on as long as also being moral and ethical. Music, photography and songs of reasonable quality. Played by some of the best Film Stars of India. The seller is reasonable on the prices to make the best of India available to the general public.

Sad but not depressing
A classic Bollywood loved in it's day, Anand is the tale of a brave young man facing terminal illness with cheerful courage. It is somewhat spoiled by the robustly healthy looking hero, who should look sick and be less able than he is, but is a pleasant story with nice songs.

One of the best Hindi movies ever made.
It is very rare for guys to shed tears after watching a movie, this movie does make you shed tears for Anand, the main protagonist played by the superstar of the 70's Rajesh Khanna. The movie has everything going for it. Acting, direction, story, music, dialogues etc... everything is fabulous. It has drama, humor, emotions in dollops. It is a story a dying man who looks at life with a positive attitude and enjoys his time knowing fully well his disease is incurable and that he is going to die soon.Rajesh Khanna as Anand is absolutely brilliant, this is his career-best performance , notwithstanding movies like Kati Patang, Roti, Aradhana, Amar Prem etc. You cannot think of any other actor in this role and to think Rajesh Khanna was not the original choice(Shashi Kapoor was). He makes you laugh and cry. He causes anxiety and goose bumps. Simply superb.Amitabh Bachchan is fantastic as babumoshai( a name with which Raj Kapoor used to address the film's director Hrishikesh Mukherjee). He showed the world that the next superstar was coming, though he really "arrived" a couple of years later. The rest of the supporting cast is also brilliant be it Johhny Walker(stands out) or Ramesh Deo or Seema or Sumitra. Everyone is wonderful.Music is the hallmark of all great hindi movies and this one has music ranking right up there, on the top. Be it "Kahin door jab din dhal jaye" or " Maine tere liye hi saath rang" or "Zindagi kaisi hai paheli".Maverick composer Salil Chowdury comes up with an absolutely fantastic score and singers Mukhesh and Manna Dey do complete justice to his tunes.About the director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, what can one say, he is one of the best directors ever in the Indian film history. A guy with a complete repertoire,a complete entertainer (though people consider other directors to be more entertaining, but real movie buffs will agree with me). All his movies, he has been directing movies since 1957 are worth a watch. Some are brilliant and others watchable. None of his movies can be rated as unwatchable(except maybe Jooth bole Kauwa kaate and Jhooti).Simply put, this is one of the best Hindi movies ever made.

Rajesh Khanna at His Best - A Classic
Rajesh Khanna's best role by far, an award-winning performance that could easily have felt maudlin, calculated and cyncical. Instead, Khanna finds the humor and the humanity in his portrayal of a dying man who embraces life more energetically than those around him, including an embittered doctor (Amitabh Bachchan). In the process, he changes their lives even he ends his. The vital center of the movie is the growing friendship between Khanna and Bachchan, whose intensity though platonic is almost romantic and tinged with homo-eroticism. The sublimated attraction is captured in the astonishingly romantic "Meine Tere Liye Hi", sung by Khanna and directed at Bacchan. Even in the 1970s, it was clear, though rarely discussed, that there was more unresolved here than simply the tragedy of a man who doesn't deserve to die. The miracle of Khanna's performance: he nails the introverted moments of his gregarious character -- moments, almost always captured in song, that let us feel his immense struggle, sadness and, finally, existential loneliness. About halfway through Anand, the immortal "Zindagi Kaisi Hein Paheli" will have you tearful and exuberant at the same time, with more of these powerful emotions still to come. A one of-a-kind Bollywood classic.

Not a real movie
One of the most heart-warming movies from the A team. I have already seen it twice since buying it a week ago and plan to watch it many more times. Best director, best actors, best dialogues, best lyrics, its a dream movie. However I had to take one star away because it is a highly unrealistic and manipulative to extract all the tears from you. It's a fantasy movie. A few years ago I would have given it 5 stars but now realizing that hard working directors and actors don't go for easy wins but rather craft something new. This movie is missing that.

Deleted scenes - do NOT buy
This DVD is terrible and quality appalling. 'Eagle' has omitted several main scenes whilst recording it on the DVD. And since they're the ones who produced it, I suggest that no one shud buy this DVD. We hv been cheated by the sellers who shud hv known this.
